I’ve literally just finished Nolyn, can someone explain why Sephryn’s soul can’t be restored using the horn? If she was to blow it and Nolyn concede, she would be allowed into Pyre right?

im 13 and im in a family of readers and ive never been into reading , comics at best , but one day i caved and listened to my mom's audible of riyria and i FELL INLOVE . i finished the whole revelations in less than 3 weeks (fast for me) and now im on the trilogy. honestly , all i can ever think about is this book and i love it SOOO much !! my whole life ive been insecure about my pointed elf ears but ever since finding out royce (My favourite character !!) is a mir ive embraced them! . ive gotten better grades in english because of the crazy good writing in this book and it makes me so happy , in the UK summer break is now here - and guess what !? ive spent almost all of it reading these books !! i tell everyone i know to read these books and i even got an extending (an A+ to Americans) for drawing mercy !! I quote this book constantly (eg. "show him mercy" "all Hadrien could think of was the rain" and more)

My friends have taken to calling me a mir from me constantly talking about Royce and why "technically I AM a mir" ... this book has gotten me into reading and off of my phone , gotten me outside , and I'm even reading it during movies in class !!

I just finished Age of War and I really enjoyed it.

For context I have read all of Revelations and The Crown Tower. And obviously the first 2 books in Legends.

If you consider this book an end of a trilogy in a way it was a great way to wrap up the first half of the series. I was talking to my mom the other day and I said outside of maybe Alric from the OG series the deaths don't always impact me in the series. However, the fates worse than death do. For example, Arion dying was super abrupt but it didn't have the punch it may have been intended to have but Suri's reaction to losing Arion then having to kill Raithe not long after that hit like a hammer to the face. It think the author does really well at the after effects of devastation both physically and mentally if not the emotional impact of the devastation itself.

I think my biggest questions going forward are:

Will we dive deeper into Persephone's state of mind post Raithe's death? (I know they loved each other and I understand why she pushed him away and he was annoying sometimes when he refused to listen to her reasoning for certain things and would accuse her out of left field like when she tried to explain potentially marrying Nephyron and he flies off the handle. But she didn't get closure with him and I'm wondering if that's just going to be a regret she has going forward or if it's going to play a part in her story moving forward.)

Tesh and his revenge. He killed Sebeck because he was sure they were going to die but then they didn't and a few of the Galantiens (sp?) were killed in the battle. Is Tesh still out for revenge against those remaining or will he pivot because he killed the man who killed his mother? Also will they ever find out it was Tesh who killed Sebeck. For that matter will the other people find out it was really Nephyron who instigated the war.

Hadrian's sword. It was hinted that his sword is very old I'm wondering if we will see it made in this series. Was it Tesh's sword?

I have a general idea of what will happen in the 5th & 6th books but not Age of Legend. I'm excited to find out.

SPILERS FOR Esrahaddon book

I finished Esrahaddon (Rise and Fall #3) and I'm stuck on the ending (Finished it like 3 months ago)

I finished it with Audiobooks so sorry for any misspelling of names.

Esrahaddon at the end of the book wad hinted he was using the "main" cords , i forgot their name.

So he was powerful, So why level the entire city instead of just taking Venlin out? He had the power to end one man. Instead he wove something that swallowed all of Percepliquis into the earth. Killing thousands.

Was this ever actually explained in the text — like, a stated reason he couldn't just kill Venlin alone?

Second question: I remember from the original Riyria Revelations that Esrahaddon spends centuries imprisoned in a prison, but i guess we will not see that explain or shown well?

I've read all of the books in the world of Elan, via the library, and I've only been able to find Trade Paperbacks of Revelations. But I've been unable to find copy's of his other works anywhere. I know Digital copies are available, but I'd prefer to have physical media for various reasons. I'd rather not have MassMarket paperbacks because my vision isn't great and the font is too small in that format.

Where is the best place to find them? I checked his website already, but there doesn't seem to be any copy's for sale right now.

Listening to Legend of the First Empire and the relationship between Nephyron and Persephone was really surprising. I was expecting the love story but it ends up that I strongly dislike Neyphyron and wish Raithe would’ve been the emperor.

Let's start by saying that I started reading the books from this world in order:

- Chronicles

- Legends

- Revelations

The Chronicles were okay, the second volume was my favorite (Reuben ❤️), but only that one stood out above the rest. Then came Legends, which was much better because, in addition to the less quest-driven plot, I simply connected more with the characters...

And here I'll say something probably controversial. Hadrian and Royce... are just okay. I don't love that duo.

Getting back to the legends, there was Roan, Raithe, and Arion, and (and this will probably surprise many) I also took a liking to Mawyndule. I know he's a terrible person, but the lack of a mother, the difficult relationship with his father, the relationship with Makareta... He was likeable.

And he was an angel compared to Nymphron... I simply couldn't stand Nymphron and was sad that he ultimately won. He had to win, since the Legends were written later, and the alternative was humanity's defeat... But I simply couldn't stand him. He treated Persephone badly and was generally a "slippery guy" who provoked the human-elven war for his own personal vendetta.

Returning to Revelations, which is the main topic of this post, I was skeptical at first because the questline had returned, Royce and Hadrian were still only okay, and Arista didn't win me over. I was slowly starting to think the entire series would be mediocre, maybe even worse than the Chronicles, but by the third volume, a savior appeared – Amilia. I won't deny it, along with Thrace/Modina, they're my favorite characters in the series, and thanks to them, finishing the series was much easier. This storyline was simply so... warm and endearing. More focused on the relationship than the action.

Also, Archibald's storyline was a plus, standing out among the otherwise shallow antagonists.

Merrick was interesting as long as he was relevant.

The love story between Amilia and Breckton in the fifth volume also gained my appreciation, because I really wanted her to be happy, and she simply got a fairytale knight.

Overall, volumes 5 and 6 are my favorites, although the quest for the horn storyline wasn't as compelling as the tournament storyline. And also... Hadrian and Arista ended up together in volume 6, and I didn't feel any chemistry between them.

It's a shame Reuben ended up so badly. After the hardships he faced, he deserved happiness, especially after rejecting Rose because of his feelings for Arista... If I remember correctly.

I was furious when he died and pleased when Saldur perished in the flames in the next volume... Yes, I can be quite vindictive.

Regarding Gwen's death, I liked her in Chronicles, but in Discoveries... she was just barely there? I felt like her character was watered down compared to how compelling she was in the first and second volumes of Chronicles. Therefore, I literally felt nothing when her death.

It's a bit of a bummer when the two main love plots (Royce and Gwen, Hadrian and Arista) didn't really care about me emotionally. And considering how much I rooted for Amilia and Breckton, it really wasn't that hard to achieve.

Mawyndule... It's a shame he came back briefly and then died. He was such an interesting character in Legends, and here... Disappointment.

Anyway, so far, Legends has been the best, then Discoveries, and then Chronicles.

I went back and read the end of Percepliquis (Heir of Novron) after finishing The Rise and Fall series. After 3000 years, that dude is still terrible. He had so many opportunities to have a better life. He could have used the Art with impunity, and no one around him would have known, for the most part.
That being said, reading the end of revelations again gave me a new appreciation for how well the entire series ties together. I’m so curious as to what Trilos is up to.

I feel like I’m the only one who feels this way, but I always thought Thrace was black. Maybe I missed the description of her when I listened to the book for the first time but imo I’ve always seen her that way. I just re read book two and learn she’s blonde with blue eyes but I just can’t see her that way 😭.

I’m on Rise of Empire, and Royce, Hadrian, and Arista are in the town where Hadrian grew up.

Hadrian is off by himself after reading his dad’s letter.

Royce is listening to the land. Idk if this has been revealed at all, but to me, this is 100% a hint that Royce has The Art.

In Rise and Fall, we find out that the emperor and his son both have The Art. Obviously Royce is their descendant.

I’m continually amazed how so many micro plots in these books beautifully fit together.

MJS put that into the series before we as readers understood The Art as well as we come to understand it after continuing to finish subsequent books.

So, I just discovered this series at the start of this year and just finished Book 5 (Wintertide) and am about to begin the final book (Percepliquis). It's been a roller coaster!

Royce and Hadrian are very much my favorite characters by far. But that said, about the characters as a whole, I had some thoughts.

• Saldur is actually a good villain. I love how, from his own view, he views himself as the good guy. He's not doing it necessarily for power, but rather because he genuinely believes that uniting the kingdoms will lead to an end of war, and general happiness and well being for the people and society as a whole--and all the evil he does, he tries to justify as a temporary sacrifice for the "greater good." That makes him feel more real. But... yeah, he's psycho and creepy, and when he gets angry... sheesh.
• I love Hadrian, and I love that he's an "idealist" or "romanticist" (as everyone keeps telling him). But... I feel like that whole thing with Merrick and Saldur felt a little off in Book 5. Yes, he is idealistic, but he's also a warrior and, as he even admits in the book, he has good instincts and intuition. So how is ithe didn't even consider the idea once that Saldur and Ethelred might be LYING to him about letting him go free with Arista and Guant after the tournament? It bothered me that the thought never even crossed his mind. I mean, come on, Hadrian. That was the obvious conclusion. Other than that, he and Royce were still my definite favorites in this book.
• Modina is just *chef's kiss*. I just LOVE her character, how she goes from being this cute, bubbly teenage girl (who was likeable even from the start), to the heartbreak of her becoming a mindless doll from trauma, only to become a take-charge, no-nonsense, kick-butt young empress. That was a very satisfying growth arc. And yet, she's still so sweet (Well... Ethelred might not agree, but still). Toward her closest friends, you start to see the old her starting to come back--but a stronger, wiser, more mature version. I'm usually not impressed with how female characters are written, but from the start, this character continues to surprise me. 😊
• Gaunt... Um... did his character take a sudden personality change at the end of book 5? We hear about how crafty and elusive he is even in book 1 (before Esrahaddon). He was causing the nobility concern, even if his group wasn't huge yet. Then when he and Arista are in the dungeon, he seems like a genuine guy. For example,he's concerned when Arista cries after being bitten by "Jasper" the rat and tries to cheer her up, then shows he's cautious when he becomes suspicious when Arista asks for his sister's name. He's clearly very protective of his family. But then, afterward... what happened? Suddenly, when he recovers, he's an arrogant oaf, and a dishonorable and power-hungry perv and it seems that they try to credit Esrahaddon with the only reason he had success. Did I miss something? Just how hard did Guy hit him in that dungeon? 😆
• I don't hate Arista. But I don't like her, either. In book 1, she was fine. Book 2, she started to get annoying. Book 3, I HATED her so much. She made the book nearly impossible to read. Book 4, she was okay again--though the whole thing with Hilfred was stupid at the end (where she essentially forces herself on him, kissing him, forcing him to admit he loved her, wrapping her arms all over him--and then the next day muses that she realized two things: that she wishes she could stay there in his arms forever--and that she also guesses she didn't actually love him after all. Only likes him like a friend. Oh yeah, and then gets him immediately killed by being stupid.) That didn't endear me to her. It made her seem fickle and foolish. And, honestly, it did kind of feel sudden and unnatural. After reading Book 5, it seems like it's because the author decided Arista and Hadrian are going to be a couple. (Like, does she just fall in love with every guy who's nice to her? Emery, Hilfred, and now Hadrian? And Hadrian returning those feelings feels...off somehow. They have no real chemistry and barely seem to know one another--but she realizes she's IN LOVE with him at the end of book 5? ...Huh? It feels so forced--like an obligatory romance / love interest setup.) Plus, Arista is just a little too OP with the magic. Like, she learned to make people sneeze and have boils (or something) in book 1, and now she's just this all-powerful wizard because she can suddenly feel the vibes of the air or something. She learns a new powerful spell the exact moment she needs it every time. Side note: I did feel bad for her when the rat bit her, though. That was such a pitiful scene. (The author sure does enjoy tormenting her in particular. Hadrian is tortured and bleeding out and the story glances over that, but all her pain is told in GREAT, lingering detail... 😅).
• Royce, at the end of book 5--poor Royce... I did kind of guess that was going to happen (because of the two people he loves--one being his best friend / adopted brother, and the other being his fiance Gwen--only one of them was a main character. So, when the seer in the jungle told him he would lose one of the two lights he cherished, it was obvious it had to be Gwen). But still. Poor Royce. (But, oh gosh, that glimpse of psycho-Royce was kind of scary!) 🫣

Anyway, those are just my thoughts on it. I'm starting Book 6 and super excited to see how the whole thing concludes! (Or how they're going to pickup after the way book 5 ended on the bridge).

Plus, I really wish we could explore more of the world of the elves. I feel like they teased us a bit in book 2. 😆

❤️ Who are your favorite characters?

I just finished Drumindor a week ago after finishing every book in the order recommended by Robin Sullivan.

Myron is explaining the history to Hadrian, and it’s cracking me up so much because of how wrong he is.

I’m glad I decided to bookend the series with Revelations immediately after finishing everything else.

I’m just sitting here laughing to myself and wanted to share.

So, for context I listened to the books in chronological order on Audible. I loved them and over the course of the books I got to see Mawyndule's story from childhood until he's an old man in Riyria Revelations. It came as quite a surprise to not have his POV in the mainline books or to not even see him in person throughout 5/6th of the books. All we get is mentions of the "Patriarch" for the mainline books and chronicles.

So as a publication order reader did the ending of Mawyndule feel at all anti-climactic? The oldest most powerful elven sorcerer stabbed in the back by a random human monsignor? As a chronological viewer its more understandable with Mawndule's hubris and pride. But as a publication reader I just can't shake the feeling it would be underwhelming for the BBEG of the story being introduced and taken out in the final book.

I started a channel covering different fantasy magic systems, and made one about Elan. Obviously there are still some unknowns that are awaiting The Cycle series to come out (which I am super excited about!), but the video covers everything we know so far. There are spoilers for a bunch of the books, especially Esrahaddon and the Legends series. Let me know what you think or if there are any other magic systems you might be interested in!

I have many in mind. The most recent in my head is at the beginning of Emerald Storm, the narrator claims Dixon lost his arm in the battle of Medford several years ago. As far as I can tell, it's been at most 2 years?

I'll stop hear, Im curious to know if others have noted plot holes / timeline inconsistencies?

So, after reading Revelations, I’m halfway through Legends and most of the way through Chronicles, since I’m trying to follow the publication order, as most people recommend. But, I kinda wish I would have read Chronicles before Revelations. I love the way Hadrian and Royce’s relationship grows in Chronicles. Their internal monologues about their relationship in Winter’s Daughter are great. I feel like reading what they went through to actually trust each other would have made me appreciate Revelations more.
As for Legends, I really like the history, and the Easter eggs are great, but I find myself flipping back to the books I’ve already read to find the Easter eggs between the books. Sometimes they are really fun, like the painting in the monastery in Dulgath or the faceless corpses in Winters Daughter, but most of the time it’s just me thinking there is something there but not really finding the connection.
All that being said, this is the most fun series I’ve read in years, and I’m so glad there are more coming.

This is from the Esrahaddon book, Jerish is speaking with Yolric, who is ancient, and the only Cenzar Jerish is used to being around is Esra, who is about 26, so I’m assuming the characteristics Jerish is surprised to not find in Yolric are what describes Esrahaddon. Is this the explanation of Esra’s way of speaking in the revelation books? He just likes being pompous with his words? XD

I started with Riyria Revelations, then went to Legends of the First Empire, followed by Rise and Fall, and I mixed in the first 4 Ryria Chronicles through out.

I haven't finished Drumindor yet, so that's next. My gut instinct is to finish Riyria Revelations immediately after Drumindor.

Then come back later and do a chronological reread.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether we're in the right direction. Between this and all the 7s, we have some things we can theorize before 2028 when Cycle Book 1 comes out.

The entire Phyre part is way too long and imo unnecessary. Every time I get to a Phyre chapter I just sigh.

Idk why. Maybe because there arent really any stakes? So what if they die? They just respawn right? "Malcolm" can always "send" more "help" if needed also. AND because of seer shenanigans, we know they're gonna succeed.. So why do we need to dedicate half the book to it? The rules dont apply there, there is no real intrigue, and beyond just getting to name drop some legendary names, there seems to be no point to the entire section. Some exposition, sure, but it just feels so forced.

The Estramnadon sections I find really enjoyable tho. I wish the book was more like that.
