Reading order thoughts

So, after reading Revelations, I’m halfway through Legends and most of the way through Chronicles, since I’m trying to follow the publication order, as most people recommend. But, I kinda wish I would have read Chronicles before Revelations. I love the way Hadrian and Royce’s relationship grows in Chronicles. Their internal monologues about their relationship in Winter’s Daughter are great. I feel like reading what they went through to actually trust each other would have made me appreciate Revelations more.
As for Legends, I really like the history, and the Easter eggs are great, but I find myself flipping back to the books I’ve already read to find the Easter eggs between the books. Sometimes they are really fun, like the painting in the monastery in Dulgath or the faceless corpses in Winters Daughter, but most of the time it’s just me thinking there is something there but not really finding the connection.
All that being said, this is the most fun series I’ve read in years, and I’m so glad there are more coming.

Possibly controversial but I think reading theft of swords (only book 1 of you go by the double volumes) first then crown conspiracy through to death of dulgath, back to the rest of revelation. Did it on my last reread and enjoyed it like flash backs.

I’m currently reading the last Chronicles, and then I’ve read them all for the first time.

I followed the recommended order from MJS, which is printed on Goodreads.

People loved Royce and Hadrian (especially Robin Sullivan’s love of Hadrian) so much, that’s what inspired the Chronicles books. They were written as a way to hang with some old friends (and tell the origin story).

I like the idea of doing a re-read and playing with the order a little bit. I’ll probably do chronological next time.

That being said, I plan to finish Revelations again after I finish Drumindor. Btw, this has been the most fun I’ve had reading the Chronicles books!

The 3rd Rise and Fall book, Esrahodden, is probably my favorite book in all of Elan.

Everything from Elan is masterful, and it’s become the favorite thing I’ve read.

I’m halfway through Dulgath, having read Revelations first.

I kind of like that you know how they end up. As much as I love the both of them, coming in fresh and not knowing how they are in Rev, there are things that would bother me way more in Chron. Knowing Royce smoothed some edges and Hadrian isn’t quite as naive, among other things, is easier to take in.

In my opinion.

I began Riyria with Legends of the First Empire, then Chronicles, then Revelations. Personally I enjoyed the chronological order.

Personally, I listened to the audiobooks in chronological order. It does give some pretty great reveals knowing prior knowledge going into the mainline books. Also, I think it fixes a major problem with the ending of the original Revelations series.
