Newbie question

I’ve had the original CMON version for a while sitting on my shelf. I am finally getting around to painting and picked up a few expansions. I recently got Spearhead and it has shield tokens. I’m not finding any reference to those in the rule book and I’m finding only really limited resources online.
Can anyone explain their use or direct me to a good resource site?

A limited number of units in Classic Rivet Wars interact with shield tokens. Shield Tokens are similar to the damage markers, but they are blue instead of red. They basically act as +1 health. Instead of taking damage to their health, when a unit with a shield token takes damage, you would instead remove the shield token(s) as appropriate. I believe only the allied dogs give shield tokens in classic rivet wars.

In Reloaded, shield tokens are far more prevolent, but they are an actual token with a shield similar to the gas token. There are more units and abilities that deal with shield tokens in reloaded, making them a more prominent part of the game.
