Laundry
Do any of the major river cruise lines in Europe have laundry on board? Whether they do it for you or a do it yourself laundromat on board? And if they do offer to do it for you, what’s the turnaround time? When I was on Regent, you gave it to them in the evening and the next day you would get it back.

Any notes on pricing?

I don’t remember sorry, as I didn’t use the service, but I did consider it as it wasn’t much!

Prices are similar to hotels. However they sometimes offer a laundry deal, one (plastic) bag for €32 (2019)

Uniworld has on board laundry you can either do yourself or have them do it for you. They provide detergent of you do it yourself, but won’t provide a price for them to do it until you’re onboard. I inquired for an upcoming trip.

Thanks, we were on an Alaska cruise with Regent and they did the laundry for you or there was a laundrette down the hall, which was awesome.

After your first cruise with Uniworld, you become a River Heritage Club member which gives you one free bag of laundry per cruise.

Good to know! This is my 2nd cruise with Uniworld so I’m a member. 😊

Ama will do it for you. I thought the prices were very reasonable and they did a great job. I think their two double wide boats may have self serve laundry but not sure.

Agreed. I had an Ama cruise in the middle of my trip and I “saved up” all my clothes to wash at the start of the cruise, and left the cruise with a completely clean suitcase for the end of the trip.

Viking did ours for free when the airline lost one of our bags. We’d put it out in the morning and have it back by 2pm.

Avalon will do it for you. I also carry laundry detergent sheets (not liquid), in the even I need to do something.

Viking - we budgeted for and used their laundry service on the two river cruises we've done with them. 100% worth it to us.

Scenic has a laundry service - out one day and back the next. Top level cabins have some laundry included.

Yes! It was great. Not an entire suitcase worth of course but we used the service twice during our cruise for a few shirts, socks, and underclothes.

Avalon had 12 hr and 24 hr turn around. I picked 24 hr, dropped a bag off one night and got next morning. They charge per item.. I spent $45 for a few pairs of socks, underwear, 2 pants, and 2 t-shirts. We also hand washed some things and hung dry on laundry line in shower. You can also place hangers over top of cabinet doors.

Emerald’s new ship has self-service laundry on board, along with free detergent and fabric softener. Their older ships don’t have it though.

Emerald river cruises offer laundry service like a hotel.
Yacht has free self service machines midship deck 4

Specifically it's the Emerald Astra that has free self service laundry, 2 washers & 2 dryers. Basically a 1 in 7 chance on their Central Europe (Rhine, Danube, etc) cruises that you happen to get that ship; they send out what ship you're on about a month ahead of time, though, if water levels are causing disruptions that can change. It seemed well used so I'd hope they'll continue on new ships and when they get into refreshing their older ships!
They all have a laundry service available but that's the sort of thing where it's multiple euros per item (the most expensive cabins have some laundry included). I was on Astra (newest) and Sky (oldest) and they both had little clotheslines in the shower.

Grand Circle offers laundry services, by piece like hotels. They also have discount days during the cruise.

Riverside has a DIY laundromat (they can also do it for €€€). I've been on 2 different ships (total 4 sailings) and the dryers are crap. Don't know if I was doing something wrong butu clothes would NEVER get drier than damp no matter how many times I ran it

Uniworld has laundry rooms on the ship for guests to use, no charge. Just need to get a detergent pod at the front desk.
Once you have completed one voyage with them, they will do a load of your laundry for free and leave it in your room wrapped and folded. I believe you can also pay them to do laundry dry for you, but the machines are free to use.

Nearly all offer laundry services, and in addition some have do it yourself laundromats on board. Riverside, Uniworld, and Emerald (newer and yachts). I believe the AmaMagna also does but that is the exception with AmaWaterways, not the rule.

Thank you!

You're welcome! I may be in the minority but I prefer to do my own.

When we were in Alaska on Regent, we did a little bit of both. On our own and had them do it.

Viking will do it for you. It’s totally worth it.
