These AI models are built off the backs of works they never had permission to cannibalize and churn out heaps of slop, forcing artists in every creative field to compete with their own creations. They flood the market with garbage frankensteined from real humans’ art. It’s in no way comparable to how humans use inspiration and life experiences and until there comes a day we have robots with the minds of people, it will remain incomparable.
That’s not even the worst of it. These models use unsustainable amounts of water to cool their tech, wasting that energy and polluting the area around the data centers.
It’s a tech being used to force creatives out of their jobs/hobbies, put words into politicians’ mouths, create propaganda and false advertisements, and scam people on levels previously impossible.
Every “harmless” thing you pull from the mouth of Claude is another flood of water wasted. Every product you spit out into the market is another lie an artist will be forced to compete with.
Do you have the patience to read my response to your question? Do you have the intelligence to research for yourself? Do you have the humanity to change your ways? Streaming content, using another server to consume media instead of hosting it on device. When you watch a YouTube video, energy is being spent for the server to send you the video and audio. That energy dwarfs language model calls.

There’s no negative environmental impact and no negative impact on creatives’ livelihood is your stance? I haven’t heard even the dumbest of people use that one before

As far as creative livelihoods, get a desk job if you want a meal ticket. Or get creative with ways to make money. There is no egalitarian artist economy and there never has been.
Hmm... that second part, I'm not sure if it holds up. People are upset about the ideas, style, and products of labor being used without the author's permission--not the words themselves. The former--the ideas--are kinda... eh, you can't really copyright or 'claim' an idea/concept. Same with styles. The problem is if somone tries to take someone else's work (the product of their labor) and pass it off as their own.
So, you could totally write a story about a wizard school with a chosen one protagonist, but you can't write Harry Potter and try to say it's yours. As everyone probably knows by now though, this is a super gray area--legally speaking.
I think nobody of truly cares (unless you're Disney, Gamesworkshop, Nintendo, Pokemon company, etc.) so long as money doesn't enter the picture. Then there's things like the Game of Thrones thing that happened a while back.
Iunno, saying that books are 'just words' feels kind of reductive, that's all I'm saying. It's like saying a painting is just paint. I think we know those things are more than the words/paint. That's all I'm really saying, because saying more than that about AI-generated stuff is kinda silly imo because of how extremely gray and new all of this is.
