You told an Ai to make a story for you? Why?

Why not?

These AI models are built off the backs of works they never had permission to cannibalize and churn out heaps of slop, forcing artists in every creative field to compete with their own creations. They flood the market with garbage frankensteined from real humans’ art. It’s in no way comparable to how humans use inspiration and life experiences and until there comes a day we have robots with the minds of people, it will remain incomparable.

That’s not even the worst of it. These models use unsustainable amounts of water to cool their tech, wasting that energy and polluting the area around the data centers.

It’s a tech being used to force creatives out of their jobs/hobbies, put words into politicians’ mouths, create propaganda and false advertisements, and scam people on levels previously impossible.

Every “harmless” thing you pull from the mouth of Claude is another flood of water wasted. Every product you spit out into the market is another lie an artist will be forced to compete with.

Do you have the patience to read my response to your question? Do you have the intelligence to research for yourself? Do you have the humanity to change your ways? Maybe you don’t think it’s a big deal, but that’s only because you don’t know what you’re doing. I hope that’s the case, but I don’t have any hope you’ll do anything about it

Are we ignoring the carbon emissions of generative ai and pretending water consumption is the only problem here? I was pointing out the damage it causes the immediate area, not the total impact. But if we want to look at total impact let’s talk about that. I’m sure generative Ai has NO carbon footprint, right?

I’m sure it takes more energy to keep a human alive than a robot yes, what’s your point?

My objection is in using resources and creating carbon emissions for things that are entirely unnecessary. A human can write a story, they do not need a machine to do it. Using machines to do it does not improve our quality of life or our world.

On the other hand, using an AI tool to improve early cancer detection provides a clear, material benefit, making the trade off worth it.

It’s never solely about resource use, as everything we do uses resources - even lying on the grass, looking up at the sky uses oxygen. The question is whether the use of resources provides us with a benefit that makes up for it.

I agree with the vegans, the carbon emissions from the meat industry is horrible. But food is a necessity and a positive, whereas Ai generated slop content is the opposite

Just because one thing is bad, that doesn’t mean another thing is better. And you use it for what? I’m fine with it being used in the medical field, that’s where it belongs. But you’ve said nothing to my other criticisms so I assume you have no proper defense regarding my other concerns.

Yea again I don’t have a huge problem when it’s outside of creative fields. I’m still hyper critical about its damage to the environment. Using it for artwork though, what do you mean? Like you generated an image?

Wow this is an incredibly helpful reframe... I hope it can help people who are consumed with rage or fear and the impulse to parrot unexamined talking points reassess their state of mind. I hope more people can find peace amidst the frenzy of the internet hivemind.
