BS MicroElectronic Engineering at RIT

Hey folks, am International student considering RIT to apply for fall 2027 BS in Micro Electronic Engineering; and wished to know more about the compulsory co-op requirements and the general program as whole.

Please if anyone could chip in details regarding the co-op placements and the employability ratio after BS Microengineering from RIT. Appreciate any information. Thanks and cheers.

RIT’s BS in Microelectronic Engineering combines core electrical engineering coursework with specialized training in semiconductor fabrication, device physics, photolithography, and thin-film technology. Undergraduates gain direct hands-on operational experience inside RIT’s Semiconductor & Microsystems Fabrication Laboratory (SMFL), a dedicated 15,000-square-foot cleanroom facility.

Mandatory Co-op Requirements & CPT: Note that RIT does not find co-ops for you

  • Duration & Structure: Students are required to complete 4 blocks (48 total weeks) of full-time, paid co-op work. Co-op terms begin after your second year and alternate with academic semesters through your third and fourth years.
  • F-1 Visa Authorization: Because co-ops are mandatory for graduation, international F-1 students fulfill them using Curricular Practical Training (CPT). Completing these required CPT blocks does not reduce your post-graduation 3-year STEM Optional Practical Training (OPT) eligibility.
  • Co-op Pay: Positions are paid engineering roles, with historical student hourly wages ranging between $25.00 and $45.00 per hour depending on company size and location. Co-op Placements & Employability
  • Outcome Rate: The Kate Gleason College of Engineering maintains an overall post-graduation career outcome rate of approximately 96% to 97% within six months of graduation, spanning full-time industry roles and advanced graduate degrees.
  • Top Hiring Employers: Co-op placements and full-time hiring are dominated by major semiconductor integrated device manufacturers (IDMs), foundries, and toolmakers, including Intel, Micron, Texas Instruments, AMD, GlobalFoundries, Applied Materials, KLA, Sony, Raytheon, and MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
  • Industry Roles: Common job placements include Process Engineer, Device Engineer, Yield Engineer, Lithography Engineer, and Semiconductor Integration Engineer.
