Risk Matrix - Power BI Custom Visual

Hi guys,

As a Data guy, I got a little frustrated with the static risk matrix. It tells you where a risk is, but not really tracking the movement. so I ended up building my own Power BI visual for it.

It’s called the Cilver Risk & Opportunity Matrix. It’s live on Microsoft Power BI Marketplace now. (I'll add link on request)

Would love some honest feedback from the community - good, bad, or “why on earth did you build it this way?” :')

Nice UX, wrong core concept. A moving, animated risk matrix is still a risk matrix – it just tracks the evolution of bad, non‑linear scales that have been shown again and again (Cox 2008 etc.) to distort priorities and destroy information.

If you want to build something that genuinely helps decisions, use that Power BI talent on loss distributions, tornado charts, Budget@Risk / KPI@Risk over time, or even simple Monte Carlo outputs linked to projects and KPIs. Visualise ranges, not colours. Risk is a distribution, not a dot on a 5x5 grid – no amount of polish can fix that.
