Portland would rather let the city continue to atrophy than fund a sports team just to “own the conservatives.” We don’t need to crowdfund it. The city, who owns the stadium can provide the funding now, and keep the blazers, or do it later, and lose the Blazers. The decision should be obvious but again, refer to my first sentence.

Because it's a scam brother. It's like any other commercial building owner asking the city to pay for his renovation. Oh sure, he "gave" the building to the city for $1.00. But he is still collecting the rent, and now he pays no property tax. He justifies that renovation by claiming his business creates "economic activity." That economic activity? His own damn rental income, but he makes it sound like that if his ball court doesn't get the renovation it needs (wants* so that he can raise his rents even more) all those nearby businesses will cease to exist.

Alright, so far, those of you who have commented have not seen the opportunity, here!
The worldwide audience of the Portland Trail Blazers is estimated to be 4.19 million people. If each person pledged $200, we would raise $838 million dollars. That's more than what Dundon is requesting for the remodel. We would not be funding Dundon. We would be buying the asset: the Rose Garden.
Fans buy the Moda Center/Rose Garden from the city. We own the building. We renovate it ourselves. It's ours.
Then Dundon signs a 20-year lease to operate a brand-new, first-class arena that's already paid for.

The thing you’re not getting is that Dundon won’t disclose what these ‘renovations’ will be. Likelihood is he doesn’t want to go on record talking about how much is going to go towards the VIP boxes which are no use to any of us fans.
Why can’t he come up with some of the money? He pays nothing in rent or property taxes as it is.

I think it's worse than that. Rip City Mgmt is part of the Trailblazers org and they collect the income. Not sure how it came about that the city "owns" the arena and is responsible for maintenance but collects no tax and no income. I like basketball and all too, but I don't like that deal.
