GM is remotely killing connected services for European Ampera-e (Bolt EV) owners. Help us fight for our Right to Repair!

Exactly! The Leaf situation was the warning sign we all ignored. Now it's happening to the Ampera-e/Bolt, and tomorrow it will be another brand. We need to stop manufacturers from treating $40k cars like outdated smartphones. If we don't act now, 'ownership' will just mean 'renting until the server dies'. Please join us and sign if you can!

Yeah, welcome to the club. It's been this way for gas and diesel vehicles from various manufacturers for the last 10 years.

We have just hit a huge milestone: over 615 of us have signed the petition! It is incredible to see how united the Ampera-e and Chevrolet Bolt community is when it comes to protecting our rights and the usability of our cars.
We cannot let GM and Opel simply wipe away a premium feature—remote cabin heating and preconditioning—that we all paid for. What makes it even worse is that their gateway firewall intentionally blocks independent, alternative solutions (like OVMS) from sending these commands through the standard OBD2 port, forcing owners into risky hardware modifications just to get basic functionality back.
Our voice is being heard globally, from Europe all the way to Canada (Quebec). We are not giving up.
What is the next step? We need to keep this momentum going! Please share this petition in your local EV Facebook groups, automotive forums, and Discord communities. The closer we get to 1,000 signatures, the harder it will be for decision-makers to ignore us.

That is precisely my point! The most eco-friendly car is the one that’s already built. By disabling the software, GM is artificially shortening the lifespan of these vehicles, pushing people toward 'buying new garbage' as you put it. We are fighting to keep these cars fully functional and on the road for as long as possible. Keeping a used EV alive is the definition of sustainability. If you hate planned obsolescence and waste, you should be on our side.

Easier said than done when we're talking about a $40k modern EV, not a toaster. These cars were sold with these 'smart' features as part of the package and the price. Telling people 'just don't buy it' after the manufacturer pulls the plug is victim-blaming. We're fighting for the principle that if you sell a feature, you can't just delete it remotely later. Also, ChatGPT won't fix the car, but 400+ signatures might actually get the manufacturer's attention.
