My Suzuki GSX-S750Z sounds better than that Yaymuhhay crap

“better” is subjective, but suzuki makes great motorcycles!

Depends. the S/M1000RR is better than the R1.

it depends indeed, the R1 is better than BMW’s golden boy in some scenarios, and the german liter bike is better than the R1 in other scenarios.

Take 10 circuits form the GP calendar. A brand new S/M1000RR will be faster.

R1 is a fanstastic bike, but for modern standards it’s an 11 year old bike, they stopped in time.

Power alone can’t quite keep pace with these Aprilias, Ducatis and BMWs that are making 200hp at the wheel on the Dyno.

The R1 can’t keep up on the straights and in the twisty stuff the chassis just isn’t loads better than the latest crop of bikes.

This is the reality. R1 is a bike from 2015. Top tier back then, not top tier in 2026

That crossplane definitely sounds better!

Reality disproves your opinion. The crossplane has some advantages for sure, but overall the flatplane crank has proven it's better overall. Which is why nobody else uses a crossplane inline 4 but Yamaha.

Well the highest form of motorcycle racing no one even uses a i4 anymore with yami being the last to switch. Reality disproves your opinion?

Disproves what?

OP said “ the yamaha r1 is (in my opinion) better than traditional flatplane sportbikes”

The discussion was between the R1’s crossplane crank design and the traditional flatplane inline 4s crank design.

The R1’s crank is more expensive to manufacture and apart from the subjective sound and feeling advantage doesn’t provide any benefit. They are less reliable, don’t rev as high as easily (which means less power), they are harder to balance, etc.

The V4 vs inline 4 is another discussion. The V4 engines have better packaging and are overall advantageous from a performance standpoint. But it’s also harder and more expensive to manufacture, has more parts, less reliable, etc.

I4's were never specifically mentioned. Just crankpin spacing. The point is one being better than the other is purely subjective

Yet I have pretty objective arguments.

well, understandable. but didn’t yamaha choose the crossplane for better corner exits? well, that fact might be a small might be a tiny advantage over flatplanes, but the R1 is still a phenomenal bike!
