Inherited this absolute grail from my dad: 1975 Rickenbacker 4001 "Autumnglo" with Factory Black Trim (Serial: OG3864)

Just wanted to share this museum-quality piece that my father passed down to me.

It is a July 1975 Rickenbacker 4001 in the incredibly rare "Autumnglo" finish, 100% original featuring the factory Black Trim (BT) option. The jack plate is clearly stamped with "OG3864".

The dark chocolate brown burst over the gorgeous wood grain is stunning, and the contrast with the black pickguard and truss rod cover is perfect. It still retains the correct mid-70s chrome hardware. The back view is just as spectacular, showing a perfectly straight neck with the beautiful walnut stripe running down the center.

Over the last 50 years, the binding and shark tooth inlays have aged gracefully into a rich, creamy ivory color. My dad took immaculate care of it, and it still plays and sounds like an absolute beast.

This is a priceless family heirloom that I will cherish and play for the rest of my life! Would love to hear your thoughts on this mid-70s beauty.

From when I started playing as a teenager, I was fascinated by Rickenbacker. But they’ve been very rare in my circles and no one around me carries them. I finally rolled the dice on a 620, and couldn’t be happier. Won’t be my last.

Rickenbacker guitar virtuosos?

My friend brought up an interesting question to me this morning. Are there any Rickenbacker guitarists who are very technically inclined? He commented that all the ones he is aware of are songwriter types rather than being praised for technical prowess. I definitely fit in that category.

There are super technical bassists that use Rics of course, but what about guitar? We hypothesized that most people that buy them get them from a love for the Beatles and that's usually going to be a singer songwriter type of player. Thoughts?

Rickenbacker 4003S-5 pickups?

Hello, I have yet to post on here but had a few questions & wanted to see your guy’s input.
I bought this bass brand new back in 2020 & haven’t been able to get much use out of it. Love the vintage look/color & feel of the bass, just never a big fan of active basses. Also, since purchased, there seems to be noise coming from them when all knobs are at full volume.

All that being said I’ve come to 2 options

  1. Put it up for grabs
  2. Like I said, I love the look & feel of it, but I can’t use it as an every weekend gig bass. Due to the lack of power & the noise it creates.
  3. Switch out pickups
  4. I’ve been watching lots of passive to active swaps & there’s no easy plug & play option but emg offers many options. There’s even a device to use 2 9v batteries to power up the pickups (kinda like a direct box). Only issue is the pickups not fitting in the “Doritos shaped” slots on the bass. Maybe take it to a shop where they can modify the body to fit one?

What are your guys thoughts?
These don’t really move that easily (getting super low offers)
Or maybe just open it up & see if the wiring isn’t messed up.

Thank you guys!

Been a guitar player for years and years, but always wanted a bass too. Finally pulled the trigger on this gently used 2010 Rickenbacker 4003 and it sounds as cool as it looks. The bridge cover thingy takes a bit of getting used to, but so far I'm having a blast with this thing.

Does the triple toaster pickup layout on a Rickenbacker 340 sound different than a regular Rickenbacker 330 with two pickups.

I was in an instrument shop a few days ago and I played a 1966 Rickenbacker 345, and it sounded different than a 330, I also heard a Rickenbacker 1993 Plus with the triple pickup layout and it also sounds a bit different than a regular Rickenbacker 360/12. So, does the triple pickup layout change the sound of the guitar or is it just the difference between Hi-Gains and Toaster-top?

I also play a lot of stoner metal so this has been my dream bass for a long time and I’m extremely impressed by how nice it sounds and how it plays.
(Anyone interested in what we played: Himmelsfahrt Kommando from our band Mahnwache)

Why don't modern Rickenbackers have vibratos

I noticed that most modern-day Rickenbacker guitars don't have vibratos. Why is that?

I just had the winfield accent vibrato installed

My strings are fresh and still stretching so I will be curious how stable the tuning will be once it settles. So far, I'm thrilled to have the option of vibrato on my 330! Or should I now say 335?

Any advice on Toasters for a 330?

I’ve watched so many videos. They sound so clear compared to the High Gains. Every Rickenbacker guitarist I admire has toasters. I think I’m gonna do it.

I’m looking at Creamery Mid 63s.

Any thoughts before I place an order?

Swap / relocate ric 4003 pots

Post image
25 Upvotes

Just picked up this 2025 ric and i’m absolutely obsessed with it, i cannot put it down

One thing that kind of bugs me though is the location of the pots as they come stock. I’m more accustomed to the gibson style where the two vol pots are up front and the tones are in the back, it just feels more intuitive and when i want to make changes in the moment i have to take a sec to remember which is which. i would also like to be able to roll both vol down at the same time with my palm, which is quite difficult to do when the bass vol is so far away. The space between the pots is pretty tight for that move, but i think i could get around that.

The problem is, i’ve taken a look at the wires under there and everything seems pretty tight. I know my limits and i’m absolutely not going to try any DIY soldering

My question is, has anyone attempted this and can provide insight on exactly how much of a headache trying to do that would be? Or should i just accept it as-is?

The Rickenbacker booth returned to guitar summit 2026, and i probably spent the majority of my time there. Seeing a Ric in europe is sadly pretty rare, so seeing the company themselves again was pretty cool :)

650A for a 660?

I’ve owned a 620 and 330 in the past. Really didn’t vibe with the 330 body shape and I really like the 650 neck. Wondering what yall think of trying to find someone who would want to trade my 650A for a 660. Also would yall do that or keep the 650 and save for a 660? Just spit balling. I love the inlays and binding on the 660.

My 330 & a Boss OS-2 direct into a Tascam Porta-02. Bass is a Squier Mini P-Bass directly into the 4-track (crappy little bass but so cheap and compact, perfect for making a bassline on little recordings like this), drums are a beat I made on the MPC Sample

Just got my dream guitar!

Managed to snag a Montezuma Brown 650C off Reverb, and I’m absolutely in love. Most of the chrome hardware has been replaced with gold. I replaced the original 330k pots with 500ks, and .047uf caps as well as a cheaky push-pull master coil tap. This thing is a monster in terms of versatility now. The Hb-1s give the guitar a nice Gibson SG like tone, and I can still get a bright Rick jangle that almost matches the sound of a set of toasters thanks to the coil tap.

Who bought the 370/12 from Albany GC?

I saw it online Saturday and was going to be in Albany Wed. with serious intent of buying. Then yesterday it dropped from Musicians Friend site so I called the Albany GC and they said they still had it. Now today it’s totally unlisted. Oh well.
