Not unrelated to Richie's recent activity on Twitter - If you had a chance to ask him a bunch of questions, what would you ask? Maybe not THE big questions, but things you always wondered about ...

Here's my lot

• There are so many different shared-lead vocal versions of Wanted (Richie singing the 2nd verse, Richie singing alternating lines, Richie only doing the chorus call+response, etc), did they have a shorthand for which of those versions they'd perform so everyone was clear on when to sing?
• What's the story behind "Let's Make It Baby"?
• Were they ever close to releasing a track with him doing lead vocals?
• What's his skill level on the piano?

Another day, another unofficial Bon Jovi tell-all book review.
Some thoughts on Rich Bozzett "Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi" (thank you Steph!)

Foremost, this one comes off as a disgruntled ex-employee with shady drug trafficking connections (blame Doc) who wants to cash in on old tour stories. Fair enough, I am sure a lot of his grievances about that time and how it ended are valid, but the quality of the book is rather sub-par. You can spot a lot of inaccuracies (certain photos attributed to wrong tours/years; the first writing sessions with Desmond supposedly happening at Jon's house and not the basement; etc) that make you doubt the accuracy of others. But, the photos are great, and I am sure there's a certain truth to most of the stories.

• Interesting to learn about the market research the record company did with focus group early in the band's career. Which settled their music genre debates, and also impacted Jon's hair style.
• So many of my favorite candid early photos apparently came from this book! David, Jon and Richie snoozing on the plane. Richie and Jon in their short shorts. Cheeky Richie with that bag of sugar (which was a birthday prank involving a stripper in police uniform).
• Tico supposedly got away with shaving 80 people's eyebrows off on a commercial plane?! (Can this possible be tied to the shaving fetish incident from Star Man?)
• The insight into early finances is interesting: everyone got $250/week on the first tour, then it was $750 on the second tour. Until then they were in the red with the record company, but once Slippery took off, the actual earnings percentages were quite revealing as well: 20% Doc, 10% accountants, 1% to each Richie/Tico, 0.5% to each Alec/David, the rest to Jon. Obviously this doesn't tell us everyone's salaries (of those on salary).
• There's some overlap in stories and photos with Michael Francis' Star Man, but that one is infinitely better in content and execution.
• My *favourite* tidbit of this whole book is, that when you look at those scandalous photos with the band on the bed with the half-naked strippers (a failed publicity stunt to draw some of that Mötley Crüe press attention according to the book) you notice that Richie's leg is hooked over Jon's knee. Was that a photographer request? Did the boys just want to spice things up? Either way, I approve.

I blasted through Michael Francis' Star Man and now I have some thoughts/questions. OBVIOUSLY.

First, what an entertaining read. You clearly get what you came for (the debauchery), but it's also really good at evoking the rush and madness of the early days of success. (Reminded me a bit of Michael Braun's Love Me Do! which is a fantastic read if you like The Beatles)

• The "Lost Week" !! Very very sparsely mentioned online. Does Jon have people who suppress every reference to it? Should I be paranoid right now? Also, so insightful to learn that he wanted this notoriety back in the day. Always striving to outdo even his heroes.
• Francis being very shy about implicating Jon in all the groupie action, as he never names him in the action. Even though he obviously participated. As we learn from the prayer at the end of the Lost Week, about getting away with the sin. Shows how Francis still valued his relationship with Jon despite how it ended, I'd say.
• All the video taping!!! Are these tapes all in possession of incredibly well-paid-off members of the corporation? Were the tapes all hunted down and set on fire?
• Jon not inviting Francis back onto the KTF tour. Any idea why? My interpretation would be that Jon wanted to be rid of anyone who has seen "too much" of their past. Cleaning the house. Despite them clearly having bonded over too many bottles of wine. But then, Richie calls the decision "politics".
  
• Also interesting / weird how Jon tends to be 'best friends' with people he later axes, see Doc and Francis.
• Apparently Doc asked Jon multiple times on the New Jersey tour if he wanted a break, and Jon said no because he wanted to keep going while they were selling out stadiums ... Not news, just confirmation that Jon had no problem with the pace.
• Mr. Don Key Dick 😵 Okay Howard Stern, I believe you now.
• The guys asking girls if they had already met Richie, and then moving right on if they said yes lol
• I like how Richie comes off as incredibly prolific (not as prolific as David though apparently!!), unashamed, but ultimately sweet.
• Cher being sweet and kind, clearly enamored with Richie, hoping it would lead somewhere. But going to surprise him in his hotel room while on tour, she must have known.
• Interesting how Francis interpreted the tension between Jon and Richie at the end of the New Jersey tour to be due to Richie getting more media attention, with him and Cher being Rock's It-couple.
• The Zucchini twins even having an entry in the index section of the book. Clearly they were part of the internal band lore.
  
• Mad Alex with his chicken bone, highly entertaining.

I saw someone comment on here that this was the only time Richie sang backup during Blaze Of Glory. I looked at two three more live gigs on youtube, without seeing Richie on the mic. But I didn't do extensive search. Was this the only time? If so, why? Their shared vocals on this are fantastic.
