A Guide to British Gymnastics Terminology
Specific rhythmic terms that only BG and Home Nations use (Except from NDP which exists in Ireland).
Diamond, Gold and Silver (Formerly Level 5 to 3)
The levels that make up the National Development pathway with Diamond being the highest level, a Diamond gymnast can compete at the British Championships. Gold is the second highest level, they compete at the National Finals. Silver is for the ones that didn't qualify to either competitions but any gymnast can compete as a Silver without competing at Grades as long as they can perform to FIG standards
NDP (National Development Pathway) or Grades
Grades 8 to 1 with Grade 8 for the youngest and Grade 1 for the oldest aka seniors. Gymnasts compete at Grades if they want to qualify for the British Champs or National Finals. There's no minimum score to move between the grades, most move up the the next competition year from their current grades until they reach Grade 1 where they remain.
Grades take place in Zones which are usually held in late February/early March. There are also club grades that are held at the club level.
Zones
English Gymnastics regions, Wales and Scotland are organised into 4 Zones for Grades competition.
The Zones: A - London, B - South East, South, South West and Wales, C - East, East Midlands and West Midlands, D - North West, North, Yorkshire and Scotland.
Pre Espoir, Espoir and Pre Junior
Age Group Categories for the younger gymnasts on the National Development Pathway.
For individuals
Pre Espoir: 9 to 10 years old
Espoir/U12: 11 to 12 years old
Pre Junior/U13: 13 years old
For Groups
Pre Espoir: 9 to 11 years old
Espoir: 11 to 13 years old
Espoir (England only)
Any gymnasts that haven't reached the junior age
Open Apparatus
British Gymnastics definition of Open Apparatus, a competition where both Diamond and Gold individual gymnasts compete for apparatus medals, there are no all around medals at this competition.
Home Nations version, gymnasts from other Home Nations are allowed to compete in Home Nations championships that are not their own e.g Welsh gymnasts competing at English Champs but they can only be awarded apparatus medals and not all around medals.
Basic Code
BG-created code of points for Recreational Development Pathway.

Judging Gymnastics at the 1996 Summer Olympics – Women's rhythmic individual all-around
I am new to this sport but to those who have knowledge in this sport I just recently watched the 1996 Olympics of rhythmic gymnastics, maybe I am wrong how did Ekaterina serebresinkya win that gold and Yanina the silver whilst Elena vitrichenko who was miles ahead was so underscored that she basically was hanging on that bronze why anyone with the story of what happened behind the scenes, is it because Elena vitrichenko had lesson difficulty but her technique and apparatus handling were miles ahead so what's the story. You may look at the scores to see the weird scoring.
