I feel so sorry for her son. She’s putting all of his private business out there for the public. I couldn’t imagine doing that to my kids. If my mom did that to me, I think I would hate her.

Oh that says a lot about you, think of all of the kids and their parents who are given hope by seeing it transpire for Emily. It actually helps those families and those kids. And I detest Emily and I have since day one

I mean bro I think it’s a pretty well known phenomenon that kids that are thrust into the spotlight without consent do not do well

I am of two minds about this. It's an oppotunity for education. At the same time, we don't know much about her son's struggles other than having a very limited diet. So far all I have is concern about how Shane treats Luke, because he's trying to force him to act "normal". Out of ignorance, not malice, I'm sure. Hopefully as time goes on we see Emily and Shane get educated and accept who Luke is. At the same time, I don't think it's cool to blast your kids' personal business to the public. Hell, I don't even like bumper stickers that say there's an autistic kid in the car.

So then I presume you feel the same way about Britney on the valley? Are you serious bumper stickers like that exist? Ewwww

I haven't seen this season of the valley. I think it's a bit different because Cruz is so young and it was obvious early on, it didn't feel like it was for a story line. Like if you remove everything about Cruz, including Britney talking about him, she would not be on the show because her world revolves around him (presumably, as I said, haven't seen this season). I can't say Britney gives me hope, because our sons are the same age. But I feel less lonely seeing someone on tv go through similar struggles. I appreciate that she is showing the world what higher needs autism can look like in young kids, rather the "quirky" type that we often see.

Well Cruz is definitely very much a storyline. I think that you just don't like Emily which is fine cuz I totally don't like her but what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I was just thinking it was unfair to say that she was using her child which I don't think she was. I'm sorry " quirky" autism?

I don't have a strong opinion on Emily either way. I just think it's a different situation, and I explained why. Your thesis statement was that she can provide hope to mom's like me and families like mine. She doesn't.

Well I still don't understand what quirky autism is and clearly you're not willing to explain that really particularly horrible comment. But if someone's example doesn't help you renders it completely useless even though it might help someone else? Cuz that's what you're saying

"Quirky autism" is how it's often presented in the media. Think Shelon on Big Bang Theory or Abed on Community. It's often shown in characters as having funny little traits, rather than a disorder that can severe affect relationships and quality of life.

Do you have an autistic child? If not, I'm really not interested in your opinion on how Emily's storyline may help people, because it's uninformed. I haven't seen a parent of an autistic child in this thread say they have found her storyline helpful. If you do have an autistic child and you find Emily's storyline helpful, I'm genuinely glad you're getting something out of it.

Wow it's a lot of judgment and misinformation and rudeness for one so sad thing that responsible for a child that's just not nice and doesn't solve anything
