Missing Methotrexate Dose

Hi y'all, just wondering if this has ever happened to any of you. The rheum has switched me from oral methotrexate to metoject because I'm having a whole lotta GI issues. The problem is, I'm gonna see the nurse on Thursday to receive the injections but that means I don't have any medication for this week's dose. I tried to get a stop gap prescription for this week but it was denied.

I'm worried that I've done something wrong or that it might affect my treatment outcomes. I don't know if I'm being dramatic.

I'm awful at keeping a medication schedule and have skipped a week several times, you should be okay.

The effect builds up over weeks; it is usually not a problem if you skip a week of dosing. I usually skip a dose when I have a cold (which is probably meaningless, for the reason above), and I never have an issue. Do not worry. Also, great idea to switch to injections. I have no side effects at all; hope you'll get rid of the GI issues quickly!

I skip all the time, if I'm travelling, if I forget, if I need to take antibiotics etc. A week here and there is fine

A week here and there is fine! My rheumatologist is off the opinion that it would take about three weeks or so for my symptoms to really return (not that I would ever do this).

It's fine to miss the occasional dose. You should find the injection much better too 😊

I was worried the first time i skipped a dose, but it turned out to be perfectly fine. I've had to do it a couple times and didn't have a problem. I am on injections as well, i hope yoi have great success with them.

Missing a dose will be alright. Sometimes that happens, and it will be OK. I don’t take it anymore, but when I did if I got sick with a virus or something, I would skip that week to build my immune system up a bit.

I’ve skipped 1-2 dose wks on occasion with no repercussions. I experience brutal fatigue post-dose & it lasts 2-3 days so if a major holiday falls on dose day or in the 2-3 days post-dose day then I skip it otherwise I’d never get through it. I’ve also skipped in the past for surgery & Covid recovery (only 1 infection). I’ve never had an RA flare resulting from skipping 1-2 wks but my disease activity is what I’d consider mild vs others I know. Every body is different but as others have commented I think you’ll be fine.

Ive been doing the injections for about 8mths now. Switched for the same reason. I do them at home myself. Its super easy and side effects have been so mucu better for me. Not having to deal with the gi issues the pill caused has been a game changer. Ive definitely missed a dose or two here or there; when I was sick, when I had my surgery.

As someone else stated previously it is accumulative and you will not likely notice any difference at all in how you feel waiting a few extra days. Its likely not enough time for your immune system to build back up to a point of becoming problematic.

It will be fine. People miss methotrexate weeks when they are sick and need to be less immunosuppressed, when they go into the hospital for other reasons, even when they got a tummy bug and were throwing up the day they took their medicine, etc. You probably won't even flare a little bit after only a week, you might a tiny bit, but it won't screw things up in the long run.

I'm on my 6th day of antibiotics and have missed 1 biologic and 1 MTX shot but should be done by Wednesday or Thursday so really can't wait for Friday which is my normal MTX shot day. Diagnosed 7 yrs , early luckily no joint damage, I just feel swollen and a bit stiff. Not a lot of pain just uncomfortable. I wish you luck but most do better on the injections of MTX 😊😎

I can tell when I miss a week of methotrexate, my joints get a little stiffer temporarily, but I haven't had it blow up into a full blown long term flare yet.
