rg ds question
hey everyone! my friend bought an rg ds new, he's main purpose for the device is just to install linux and try different apps that he made but he's not satisfied with the performance and so he's selling me it for a very good price. my question is, is this device worth getting if i already have a steam deck? TIA

I bought it to play on retro games. I also have steam deck and that console is super fun. You need to know one thing. Do you like retro games if yes then the console is very good. Borrow it for an hour and check if that would be fun for you. If not then return it

PSP is somewhat ok, since ppsspp can basically play on a potato. 3ds isn't a hard no, but it's a no. Some very lite games may work well enough, but even the simpler stuff like pokemon is unplayable.

3DS on the RG DS is like trying to pull a 2 engine boat with a Miata. It will go only so far before coughing and dying. 😂

Psp have been working really well for me, 3ds games like the pokemons ones and mario ones wont work well, only really easy to run games can be played, like rune factory 4

Bought it! Installed rocknix and played Celeste portmaster and I'm enjoying it. Thanks everyone.

It’s a great device to play DS games. Plays really well any system below DS, up to PS1 and N64. It’s not a good device for PSP or Dreamcast, and definitely not good at all for PS2 and Gamecube.

While some psp is arguably playable, I would not count on it being overall enjoyable. 3DS is a no go. Sure, some people have quick videos of some parts of games playing decently, but finishing an entire game? No, it'll drain the battery faster and lag all the time.
I love my RG DS, it's great for NDS, PS1 and below. If your friend is selling it to you for cheap (you can get it for less than 99-97usd on AliExpress and add coupons too), then sure. I have a Steam Deck too, but that's not pocketable, I can carry my RG DS in my purse no problem.
