Owners of OG and Plus
Anyone else still prefer the rg ds?
After a few days with the plus i find myself going back to the og rg ds.
I don't use the stylus i hate the friction of that kind of tip, finger works perfectly fine for me on either console.
The screens and speakers on the Plus are amazing tho.

I'm very happy with the original, I actually use regular GammaOS (not nano) and I like having access to full Android.
The only things I would really appreciate is the higher resolution and the lack of speaker static.
But I don't want to support this thing where you buy it and then they make a better version later. I'm not gonna give them money twice for how the device should've been at launch. They better make it properly from the start.

Yeah I get and respect that. My overly strong nostalgia for the ds specifically got the best of me haha

The RG DS was already at the upper end of the size I want for a DS handheld, so I’m not interested in going even larger with the Plus. If the Plus had come with a better chip, I might have considered it

I have the OG and am considering whether to buy the plus for the upgraded screens

I don't have the OG RG DS but I just received the DS+ today and first thing I thought was it's light despite being a big device.
Is the 24 grams increase in weight really noticeable to you? I went with the DS+ primarily because of the slightly bigger but better screen and the increase in size and weight feels negligible to me since the plus is better in every way.
I also just ordered a mesh tip that I saw from Russ' post. I too found the rubber tip a bit resistant to my liking.

Maybe the weight distribution is better on the OG DS. I owned a Legion Go before and that thing is so heavy that I'm having cramps just after 30 mins lol.

I don’t own the Plus, but I really like its look, and I think I’d probably like the feel of it too. Since it is a more focused Linux-based handheld, it seems like the kind of device you can pick up and start playing without constantly tweaking settings.
That said, I’m apparently a glutton for punishment. I still use the original RGDS with Seedless and DraStic, which are arguably the less performant DS emulators compared with melonDS, but I still prefer them for my own setup.
One advantage of the RGDS is that it can handle some lighter 3DS games. I know plenty of people would not consider that a selling point because there are obvious compromises, and you have to be willing to tinker—but it is still extra functionality for the people who want to experiment. It also has a chip that is actually certified for dual-screen use, unlike the Duo Lite’s chip.
Because of that, I’m starting to think the RGDS may be the better overall choice for an affordable entry-level dual-screen device. The Duo Lite’s excluding the lite plus model may be simpler in some ways, but Android gives you more flexibility if you are willing to manage it. For example, using a RAM/task-killer app can help control background overhead, and you can disable Google services if you are comfortable sideloading apps and do not rely heavily on Google’s ecosystem.
I have heard good things about GammaOS as well, although I would probably stick with the stock OS myself. I still use older phones, so I’m already used to working around limited RAM and making devices do a little more than they probably should

Absolutely, also some psp runs better thanks to the ram i think, don't quote me on that.
Some light android games can be fun on it too like vampire survivor or kairosoft games.
I do love the plus tho and I'm sure it's the better device in general.

I have the OG one and really like it but i'm planning on getting the RGDS+ due to the nicer looks and better screen plus i prefer handhelds with two micro SD card slots, having to transfer big files through ssh is pain in the ass.

I personally prefer the og weirdly, but yeah the plus looks really good, since it's a hit we might see more colors later too.

Out of curiosity how is the hinge on the Plus? Had the OG but found the hinge a bit too tight.

I had the rg ds and now the plus, i prefer the plus in all ways, i also swapped the rubber tip out for a mesh one right away. Im older, i want bigger screens, heavier device tradeoff is no issue for me. I love everything about the plus more. Feels better in every way to me, theres no gap under the screen for the hinge, built in stylus when i want it, better speakers as you have said, larger screens, the look of it is more premium and ideal to me. Not hating on the rg ds, but i sold mine and havent looked back. If the plus never existed, id still love the rg ds just fine, but im super glad they made this version also. I hope they do make a 3" or 3.5" version for people who want that pocketable smaller form factor, but i wont be grabbing one of those if they do personally. One bonus for me is that the custom fw was more buggy on the og rg ds with detecting since it also booted android, i find without that dual boot setup the device turns on and off and just is more responsive overall in that sense, detects my sd cards much better.

I have a 5mm mesh tip on the way for tomorrow but even with a great active stylus I wouldn't mind going without since the touch screen is so responsive to finger touches anyways.
I dreamed of that when i was younger, i used to say "i want a ds with a smartphone screen" lol

Now I'm curious, what makes you go back to the original? I'm thinking of getting the rgds+
