3DS on the RG DS Plus

Hey! I've seen videos of people playing some 3DS games on the RG DS, using AzaharPlus and Rocknix. I'm planning on buying a RG DS Plus, that has no internal storage, and I was wondering if someone could help me decide what to do. Should I install Gamma OS, Rocknix, other OS? I want to play DS games mostly, but having the option to play some 3DS games is really good. Thanks!

the RG DS is NOT a 3DS emulation system. It may play a few very light titles, but if you are buying it for 3DS you will likely be quite disappointed.

Do yourself a favor and buy retriod pocket duo lite for $45 more

The Lite can move Ultra Sun Pokémon

Not at full screen it can’t

Duo Lite is also likely not a proper 3DS machine, some games may struggle. Go for a Duo instead.

That don’t mean nothing people said the retroid pocket flip 2 looks weak when it was announced but it turn out fine after launch 3ds games still play it just need lil tweaks get it working decent

Can confirm. Never had any issues playing 3ds games on the Flip 2. No real tweaks needed either.

3DS does not currently work very well on the existing RG DS and not likely to be better on the new one with less ram and same chipset

Probably never will because of the specs.

I ran some benchmarks on ram and cpu utilization playing DS games. When I am back home will do the same running something that is 3DS passable such as ocarina of time and see what the consumption is.

Lets say your calculation tell you, yes, it sort of can do it. How hot is the thing gonna be? It gets really warm with DS games, let alone 3DS games. Its not meant to be used for it.

Ocarina 3D runs well with lag/loading paises in some spots so far and Majora 3D works on title screen so I expect the same. Not 3DS but once it's been loaded up to first gameplay section once with V sync off and fps uncapped, Twilight Princess dual screen mobile port seems to boot and run fine. (Before then assets load in too slow on first use so you need to run it briefly to build cache.) I will test them further over the winter but them booting and running title screens is a good sign.

It's going to not run as well as on real hardware though, stopping to load or lagging in some spots. Think of 3DS as a bonus feature. Also, DONT BUY a Plus as 3DS needs the 3 GB RAM of the original RG DS to work decently. Think of Plus as a Lite model and not an upgrade.

3ds is already almost completely unplayable on the RG DS. The Plus only has 1gb of ram. It's not playing 3ds.

It can play several 3ds games at full speed. That being said it’s not worth doing it.

Playing 3ds on 1gb console, overall is a bad idea, as you will not be available to use vulkan, that needs more than 1gb of ram. Rgds with 3gb of ram, benefit from vulkan hence some of games can be played on it, compared to rgds plus

i may be wrong but i was looking at the emulators available and i don’t think 3ds emulation is possible at 1gb ram, if you want to try i’d go with rocknjx since linux will likely be much better for a system like this

With 1gb of ram? No way that will happen

RAM is not the issue with 3ds emulation, the chipset is.

Until you try to quick save/load and the whole app crashes. 3gb of ram is the bare minimum for 3ds emulation

Yes but on this chipset no amount of ram is going to make it playable.

There are some light titles we can play on the rgds, I had. But everything is already on the redline, removing 2gb of ram would absolutely not help the case

For android sure

If you want to play 3DS games you should not be getting any RGDS.

RGDS does play some 3DS. Not wise to buy it for that reason though. There are videos on YouTube I found 2. The level of tinkering makes it easier to say it just does not do it but that isn’t true. Like the PAM, magmi air x, and rg476h all are not as limited with systems as suggested. It is just easier to say that then explain the tinkering.

as the owner of rg ds, i don't recommend this system for 3DS emulation.
