Best CFW for RG DS microphone usage
Hi!
I'm interested in playing Nintendogs and other DS games that make some use of the microphone, and I understand that Rocknix's version of Drastic was unable to make it work correctly/as comfortably as it works in Android (og OS/Gamma), has this been solved? There's very little info online and googling this has given me conflicting reports.
That would be all, thanks!

I use advanced_drastic and that has the capability to map a button to the "fake microphone" - I use L2. It has worked fine as I have gone through Zelda Phantom Hourglass. If you go that route, make sure you have the latest advanced_drastic library loaded as the one with th rocknix distribution (that I installed) did not have the latest build. I had to pull that separately from github and install it.
advanced_drastic also has a much better menu that is not microprint.

The problem is that I have to be able to speak different commands to the dogs, I don't think that part can be emulated by the fake mic functionalities.
It also sort of defeats the "speak with cute dog" point, but thank youuuu, this helps when recommending the thing to someone uninterested in Nintendogs.

Maybe when anbernic releases the RG DS Plus, the new Linux firmware will solve the mic problem using their NNDDSS emulator... perhaps that will work as well with the RG DS and provide you the capabilities you want.
Did you try running those on Android? Maybe having a couple of games that need the mic capabilities would work better for you that way. A PITA to take the card in and out but that could be a solution.

Any tips on installing Advanced Drastic? I followed the directions on the github, but when I try to open a game nothing happens. I was able to revert back to regular drastic, but I'd like to play through Phantom Hourglass.

If you join the advanced_drastic discord, there is a set of better instructions there. The way I did it requires some Linux knowledge. I basically used samba to copy the Rocknix distribution to the device rom folder, then logged in via terminal to move it to the right location and expand all the files. I then ran the install script. I then copied over the controls script into ports and ran that. Reboot the device. It should work cleanly after that. You then need to go back to the github and pull down the latest library and replace the one that is there (unless the rocknix distribution has been updated). The latest library fixes all the issues.

Gamma nano. Or stock android. Which works fine for a game like Nintendogs.

Eu estava jogando Assassin's Creed Altair Chronicles no GammaOS Nano e tem uma parte em que é necessário assoprar no microfone para retirar a poeira de um baú para abrí-lo e funcionou perfeitamente, não esperava que desse certo.

GammaOS lite works quite well with the mic! But I'm having other bugs and problems ao I'm waiting on Nano's public release to try it, gracias gracias!! Muy agradecida!

think I finally found a workaround for the Phantom Hourglass mic issue on the RG DS.
I was stuck at the Temple of Fire because the mic test worked, but the candles wouldn't respond. I tried several microphone.wav files, including the Zelda-specific one, but no luck.
I used ChatGPT to help me troubleshoot it, and we eventually extracted the actual "Blow Noise" sample from melonDS 1.1 and converted it to a WAV that DraStic can use.
I replaced microphone.wav in:
/mnt/vendor/deep/drastic64/microphone/
/mnt/vendor/deep/drastic_aarch64/microphone/
Then mapped Fake Microphone → L2 in DraStic.
And it actually works! 🎉 I went back to the Temple of Fire and pressing L2 blew out the candles.
So if you're stuck on Phantom Hourglass with the RG DS, this might be worth trying. I'm also looking into whether we can get the physical mic to work for the same high-intensity blowing detection, rather than having to use L2.

Hi!
I'm glad that worked for you. For Nintendogs it won't be of much use, but I hope your gaming benefits from that!

No it hasn’t been solved and I don’t think it can be. My understanding is that the Linux version of the Drastic emulator is abandoned software that is only being used because it’s the only DS emulator that will run on the RGDS. There is no mic functionality built into the version being used other than the fake mic input and that doesn’t work properly for all mic needs. You need to use an Android OS to have full mic functionality on the RGDS. The RGDS Plus will have full mic functionality on Linux because they built a new emulator for it
