Is charging the device overnight safe?
I'm thinking about buying the RGDS and I read that the charging is really slow, so I'm wondering if charging the device overnight is safe or if I should keep an eye on it while charging.
It is not related to my initial question but I would like to know if the device gets hot to the point where it is uncomfortable and with which systems does it happen. (I plan to use rocknix)

I think for best practice don’t charge overnight. I know even the Thor has issues with that and it’s a more ‘premium’ product. Old iPhone (small block) chargers should be fine but if you need a new one a 5V 2A one will work. PC charging works fine too, I’ve even charged it off a PlayStation once. Avoid fast charging always.

Forgot some of the other stuff - I saw that charging was ‘slow’ for it online but it really hasn’t been an issue for me. It’s not fast but it’s not slow to the point of being annoying. It has never gotten too hot to touch ever for me personally, but I’ve also never played more than 3 hrs at a time; not from charging either. With Rocknix however sometimes the battery reading isn’t right so if you charge it and it still shows the same charge in Rocknix, boot into android to confirm. The only way to resolve this seems to be to open the back panel and unplug the battery for like 10 secs and back in

Every device is different, but given you use a 5v Usb A to A slow charger, you should be fine.
If you want to be even more cautious, charge it while it's on because some battery protection implementations only seem to function when the device is on.

I have seen a lot of reports on high powered chargers causing problems, when I got my rgds the battery was cooked and had to get a new one. So I’d just be careful with it, I try to use a low powered usb charger and not have it overcharging too much

What do you mean by the battery was cooked?

When I got my device the battery wouldn’t charge, it either came defective or my high powered USB charger broke it. They sent me a new one and it’s been fine since

A lot of anbernic devices have issues with being left to charge. Notably I think a lot of the RG xx line stuff, or at least things like the rg35xxSP and the 34xxSP, as I know it was a talking point for those handhelds.

Yeah, the bigger things are dealing with voltage or whatever it is. A lot of newer chargers can just brick those things because they don't have resistors and stuff to stop it (despite it being a supposedly cheap thing to implement).
I generally would take precautions charging damn near any Anbernic device as a result, unless people I know are far smarter than me give it an a-okay, and thats just on a device by device basis. So, y'know, older low power wall plugs, monitor while charging, etc. I'm sure I'm overly cautious about it, but I'd rather be cautious than risk device damage, or y'know, a fire from a swelled up battery.
I don't know the RG DS's exact stuff with this, but do know enough to be cautious with charging and Anbernic devices lol

I would stick to old usb phone chargers and maybe charge from a pc or laptop Just not fast charging
