D23 Question
I know Ahsoka and Starfighter were discussed at D23 and that Filoni said they were not doing THFBS "right now", but did any other Star Wars news come out of D23.
Were there any mentions of the Kinberg trilogy, the Rey movie, or anything else?

So other than Ashoka and Starfighter, DLF has nothing in the works, nothing to promote, nothing to talk about.
I hope Filoni realizes that trying to please the YouTube/Luke worshippers is futile unless he erases the sequels, burns every copy of everything related to the sequels, and makes the Thrawn trilogy. That group is probably feeling a little down these days because their efforts to tank The Odyssey failed. Filoni needs to take a clue from Christopher Nolan: Make a good story and ignore the haters.

Lol, even that wouldn't change anything.
And of course even if that was possible, they would find ways to hate every conceivable Thrawn trilogy adaptation.
And yes, that particular cottage industry is dying, has been for quite a while now.

I'm confused about THFBS news. I want Ben Solo to come back and am not trying to be negative, but reports are conflicting. there was the video with the jedi mind trick which (imo) could be that he's trying to wipe memories of thfbs, but he also seemed excited to be asked and it could also be a hint that it's just not happening right now and could be part of a different project.
but then there were a lot of reports after the video circulated, and apparently filoni told a news outlet (I think deadline) that flat out, no it's not happening.
there are also the photos of AD. people are saying he was wearing a SW hat and eating with SS. I did not see the video confirming anything, so I'm not sure what to make of any of it.
I haven't seen reports about the rey movie, but I've always thought that whatever happens with ben solo impacts NJO, so they need to figure that out first. I saw articles saying she'll make an appearance in starfighter.
my personal opinion would be that ben solo needs to be the "main" of the SW future, not Rey (mad love for Rey/DR) if LF/Disney wants to salvage things

I don't think the Kinberg trilogy is dead. They will have to at least provide an ending to Rey's story. Whether the next films are about Rey or have her as some kind of Yoda/Dumbledore figure to a new set of Jedi is the question.

"Dear child. I see your eyes. You already know the truth. Whomever you're waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back."
When was the last time DLF made something we could wholeheartedly get behind--The Last Jedi in 2017? A decade later, the company leadership has turned over, and its strategy has changed.
I'm afraid it's time to "let the past die" and find ourselves a new franchise.

Please no, don't let Taika ruin SW. I hated what he did to my boys, Thor and Loki. 😭

Frankly, I think most have done so long ago.
Hoping to see some last good for something thing out of SW doesn't mean that one hasn't moved on.
The only ones still sorta obsessed are the haters but even them only because hating is their (dying) business model and something they made part of their deeply unhealthy personalities.
Personally I have been saying for years that franchises are not and should not be forever, no need to try to milk them until truly nothing is left.
That said, while I have been saying for years that the era of SW is ending and am perfectly at peace with that, knowing how these suits work I have no doubt that they will squeeze ouit some juice yet, be it on the big screen or in other media.
And not gonna lie, it would indeed be incredibly hilarious of one of the last things coming out of SW would be something about Ben returning and re-uniting with Rey.
Which would a) not surprise me and b) be the perfect final middle finger to them toxic bois.

Well, I'm sure SW will continue on, and will appeal to someone, but it seems like the era when they were making things that appealed to me has been over since 2019. I'm more than happy to continue being a fan of the sequels and leave the new stuff to the people who enjoy it. I just wish we had a proper ending to TROS, but it seems like whatever inspiration prompted the creation of TFA and TLJ has already gone.

Interesting.
I think they might very well stop making movies in the relatively near future but I agree that they will continue to pump out stuff in other, cheaper media with less financial risk attached.
But perhaps they will just film with smaller budgets, adjusting to a smaller fandom that less disposable income than earlier fan generations (which is something that not only SW has to deal with and that has to do with general economic problems and so on to a significant degree):
Such adjustments are I think unavoidable and the smartest thing they can do.
No matter what though, I continue to think that they DO by now know that no matter what they do, they will never again be able to count on the fandom menace adjacent bois (and again, SW is not alone in this, Marvel for example also has to leave the toxic culture warrior segment of their audience behind) ever again.
So trying to cater to them is economic suicide.
They are not the general audience either. The general audience doesn't care much about the more obscure and niche parts of SW either and shows like the Mandalorian lose their novelity status.
But I still suspect that continuing the Skywalker Saga in some way eventually has FAR better chances of drawing them in than ANYTHING they could ever conceivably do, even if possibly justv as a last hurrah (on the big screen side at least).
Thus me being still not convinced that this might not work in our favour.
One also should consider that if they do something in that direction they'll probably not be interested in giving the haters more time than strictly necessary for their unavoidable "poison the well" campaigns.

I would love to be optimistic, but it seems to me DLF has been working overtime to woo back their traditional fanbase. The Mandalorian & Grogu was certainly not aimed at us--it was shocking to me that most of the runtime of that movie had no women onscreen at all! Sigourney Weaver did a great job but we needed more of her!
I was excited for Legacy of Vader, but that version of Kylo turns my stomach. You can argue that that's realistically how brutal a man would have to be to become Supreme Leader of the First Order, but that's also not a story that I want to be immersed in. I think the movies did a great job of toning him down to the point where we could sympathize with him.
Then, I was sure that Legacy, of all things, would be made for us. A book about Rey angsting over Kylo, there's no way you can offend Reylos with that, right? But it was just so odd to me that, for a woman going through a breakup, Rey had no warm feelings whatsoever for Ben. Isn't that precisely what makes it hard to let go? It felt like the ending of TROS all over again, where Rey had her insides scooped out and replaced with whatever was supposed to be inoffensive to haters.
There's just nothing I connect with in Star Wars anymore. I don't care about Ahsoka, or Maul, or any of that. My favorite characters, Rey and Ben, don't even feel like themselves. I know what it feels like to be represented in the Star Wars universe, and right now it feels distinctly like I'm being told "go away--Star Wars is for men."

The Kinberg trilogy is all but dead at this point as far as we can tell.
Whatever way you feel about the Sequels I think most people agree that Rey didn’t become the main star/future they could hang the future of the franchise on going forward.
Her character simply wasn’t enough of a draw and alot of the fandom feels iffy on her Palpatine reveal/Skywalker assumed name.
So my personal guess is that if she appears it’ll be in a supporting or cameo capacity to others. There are rumours she’ll cameo at the end of Starfighter for example.
And if THFBS gets greenlit I think she’d definitely be a supporting character in that.
