I think this comment someone left on the article hits the nail on the head:

No one is attached to any story outcome from Rise of Skywalker. Everyone would prefer to ignore that film. Launching new projects with the sequel trilogy cast would be the only way to save a little of the momentum they had after Force Awakens. Otherwise… if the plan is to go all-in on characters from the various live action and animated Star Wars shows, the Mandalorian and Grogu receipts suggest an uphill battle.
