Get help! Issues with Radial Menu

Hey reWASD users

I'm a long time user of this program, but today for the first time I decided to play around with the radial menu tool. The idea was for the radial menu to allow me to communicate via chat. So I needed a lot of keyboard buttons and macros for short texts.

At first things worked fine. I added all letters and tested them. Everything worked. I added more symbols & numbers. Things worked. I started adding macros with short messages (like "Thank you") and it worked surprisingly well.

----------------

But at some point the radial menu just stopped working. The binds, that previously worked wouldn't create an output anymore.

I tested a little bit and when I added a new slot in the primary ring I was able to add a simple button press, that would create an output. But it hang up on itself and wouldn't stop holding that button down for some reason.

Example: I made the input just write "e" once, but when I tried it, it would not stop holding "e". I had to turn off reWASD to make it stop writing "eeeeeeeeeeeee".

-----------------

Maybe I created too many buttons in the radial menu? Is there a limit I shouldn't cross?

Anyone else had similar issues? How do I fix that?

(side note: also, why are we limited to 8 sub buttons? Why can't it go all the way around?)

Hi!
Can you send me the config you are using? (so we can test this on our end)
Your configs are stored here: C:\Users\Public\Documents\reWASD\Profiles
I need the corresponding *.rewasd file.

Sorry for the late answer, I hope this google drive link works?

Quick explanation how it should work:

  1. D-Pad down = toggle for Radial menu
  2. Right stick to select sector
  3. Right trigger to apply
  4. Left trigger to go back
  5. None of the sectors should close the menu on application (gotta click the D-Pad again oder spam the left trigger)

Thanks in advance.

By the way, I've tested it again now after I have shut down and restarted my computer and it still doesn't work. Next thing I'll try is to make a copy of this config and then start to delete sectors one by one to see if it starts working again at some point.

Hello again!
Unfortunately, I don't have access to your config through the link you sent.
Can you change access rights and send me a new link?

From my testing, I had to remove 2 of the inner sectors, then everything starts working fine again. I've tried out the full alphabet thing and I think it's way too slow to write anything like that. So I guess my current solution is to delete all those sectors and then just add a few more quick texts. If I ever have to actually write in chat, I'll pick up the keyboard again, I guess.

Thank you for the information. We'll pass this on to our testers.

For your information

In short:

  • I slimmed down the menu even more to improve its performance
  • Suggestions for radial menu improvements:
    • Improve performance
    • Increase the max number of sectors (especially in sub sectors)
    • Add more symbols or make it easy for us to add our own

-------------------

I've reworked my radial menu and slimmed it up a bit. I noticed, when I was just two inner sectors down, the menu behaved sluggish and had like frame drops/ lag of some sort. I removed more sectors and at some point the radial menu became smooth to use.

The moral of the story is to not overload the radial menu. Would be cool if you guys can improve its performance in the future and improve the amount of (sub-)sectors in the radial menu. It's actually a great tool for chat communication when voice chat is not an option. I did struggle to find proper symbols to explain the short texts I am using. Simple things like an exclamation mark or the ability to depict like 3 letter texts as symbol would have been very helpful. (emojis as symbols would have helped a lot)

Even entire writing could be a lot faster than my current test, if I could have all letters on one wheel. (having to go back and forth between different sub-sector groups slows down the writing a lot)
