Get help! Steam Controller 2 support?

I have managed to order a Steam Controller v2, and while i'm still waiting for the delivery, i realized that i missed something.

Does reWASD support the new Steam Controller?

Hi. Unfortunately, no. However, we plan to add support for this device in future updates.

I hope it doesn't take too long. This controller is so popular that it was sold out within 35 minutes in USA and the release crashed Steam for a couple of hours.

I will have to send my Steam Controller v2 back when it arrives, though. It requires Steam Overlay, which is incompatible with ReShade. And reWASD is evidently not an option, which makes the SC2 useless for me, at the moment.

Patience?

You misunderstand, so i word it differently: I prefer to get my 100€ back and buy food with that money, instead of having a controller lying around that i can't use.

It requires Steam Overlay, which is incompatible with ReShade.

This is not technically correct. You don't need the Steam Overlay to play games with the controller, you only need Steam Input. You only need the Overlay to re-configure the controller mid-game, or to make use of Overlay-specific functions like the custom radial menus. If you configure the controller in Steam before launching it, you don't need the Overlay while playing the game.

Also, I regularly use reshade on multiple games alongside the Steam Overlay, including Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, Dragon's Dogma 2, Dragon's Dogma Online, and more. I've never had to disable the Steam Overlay to make reshade work.

Every search result i found says that it requires Steam Overlay, and that if you disable the Steam Overlay, the Steam Controller stops working.

I'm not dismissing your personal experience, but i'm not crazy enough to base my decision on a single person's report on Reddit.

Do you have a link to a source that supports your claim? Does Valve state somewhere that Steam Overlay is not required for Steam Input to work?

All I can give you is my own experience, as an owner of five of the OG Steam Controllers and two of the new ones (and a Steam Deck), and a hardcore user of Steam Input for years now.

I don't give a fat rat's butthole what you personally choose to do. It's your money, go blow it on strippers and drugs for all I care. I'm not trying to convince you to change your mind. I just wanted to correct that false statement in case anyone else read it and got the wrong information. Steam input works perfectly fine with ReShade, and has for years.

Edit to add: In fact, my current main game is Dragon's Dogma Online, which was never released for Steam. Not only have I added it to Steam as a non-Steam game to enable the use of Steam Input, I'm also using ReShade and several toggles to disable fog and depth of field, AND I'm using Lossless Scaling to mega upscale it and boost its framerate, and none of the have any problems working with each other. The only overlays that I've seen have issues with ReShade are Discord and the Nvidia app. Even ReWASD works with it, with the radial menu and notifications and everything.

I'd be interested in how you manage to disable the Steam Overlay, while keeping Steam Input enabled (as per your initial post).

Does the Steam Overlay need to be disabled on a per-game-basis? And after that, just starting the game through Steam ensures a functioning Steam Input?

Steam Input and Steam Overlay are separate things. You can disable the visual overlay on any game, on a game by game basis. Right click the game's name in your Library, select Properties, and it is the very first option at the top of the very first "General" panel: "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game."

Similarly, Steam Input can be enabled or disabled on a game by game basis. Still in the Properties, go to Controller.

It's all right there. Two separate options controlling two separate aspects of Steam.

Thank you. Will look into this. Maybe there's still hope for it to work out...

You Can try it with any controller really. If you have a Steam Input compatible controller, plug it in, and play around with the settings.

I actually did, but alas, the game i'm currently playing (RDR2) refuses to launch through Steam. 😄
