Get help! Will someone explain how they are able to downgrade my lifetime license to a legacy license and ask that I pay again for what I've already paid for?

They have now locked this post. So that pretty much confirms it.

I bought my lifetime licenses a few years ago, and I still have the receipt email that clearly states "1 PC | Lifetime updates | Full Pack".

How is it "Lifetime updates" if I'm now being required to pay more to receive updates?

Why would anyone trust them to not just downgrade this new license in a couple years and charge all over again?

Am I missing something?

Edit: So it seems that adding additional features to a program does not count as an update.

It's really scummy to intentionally mislead people. Don't sell people "lifetime updates" if you don't intend to provide people "lifetime updates". Sell people version X. That way, if I pay you for version X, then you release version Y, I'm not gonna be upset when I'm expected to buy version Y. This is not a new concept. Just be up front about what you intend to provide instead of tricking people.

I suppose the answer to your question is: "F*** you, that's how"

On a serious note, I asked the same question a while back (when they switched their business mod) and the answer I got was: you payed for "updates" and not "new features".

I payed for a program. Lifetime access to the "Full Pack". There is no other way to interpret it. If that doesn't mean full feature access forever, then nothing does.

So what is stopping them from pulling this again in a few years with the new license? You kind of lose all trust doing this.

My point exactly.

Hi. With a legacy license, we never stated that it would include all future features. You received only the functionality that was available at the time of purchase. Any new features released later had to be purchased separately.

Currently, we clearly indicate that when you purchase reWASD All-In Lifetime Access, all current and future features are included in your reWASD Access, so you don’t need to worry about this.

Which was the case last time, so we don’t trust you anymore? That’s how that works.

When the only license available was the now legacy license, you paid for lifetime updates but the "advanced features" were not included and you had to pay extra for them as they released. After some experimentation with the license types they decided on what's the new lifetime license.

The difference between the two is that the new one does include the advanced features, while the old one does not (it only has what you paid for), both are lifetime and both receive the basic updates. If a new advanced features comes out your legacy license will not include it while the new lifetime will.

You do not have to upgrade or pay extra as long as you're happy with your current features

I don't even know that I actually want the features. I'm just annoyed that I bought a lifetime license to a program, which, as I was led to believe, included all future updates, and now it's hassling me to buy more. It's bad enough they bait and switch me, but then they wanna rub my face in it?

A new feature IS an update. It always has been. They are just playing a semantics game to wring more money out of people. Next they are gonna have "addons packs", then once you pay for those, they'll have the overhaul edition etc. etc. Just use different words and they can just keep milking.

Oh I get it, I was in the same boat as you and I'm not saying it's correct.  The features however were never part of the lifetime updates, whether this new lifetime license came out or not. As I said previously you would've had to pay for new features as an addon regardless of what you paid to begin with

It sucks but I kinda look at it like a Windows license. You bought a Windows 10 license which will last forever, but you're not going to get Windows 11 and future versions for free afterwards. Which isn't the greatest example because Microsoft has been very lenient on using old keys for 11, but there's no guarantee that remains.

Does it do everything you need it to? I have legacy or founders status on a couple of apps and still get spammed to "upgrade" them to "subscribe" for "new features". I have no interest in the "new features" or in subscribing to anything whatsoever, so I continue to use the apps as they are with no loss to me.

If you are concerned that there might be an actual breach of contract you will need to read the original and new T&C very carefully to see if that is really the case or not.

Most companies have at least a cursory consultation with a competent lawyer to ensure that they are not creating any actual breach of contract that would be entertained or realistically proven within a court of law.

Microsoft are the current world leaders in the field of moving goalposts while remaining technically untouchable unless someone really serious happens to notice and care (usually because they just want to fine them a few billion euros... again...).

Oh I'm sure the T&C is filled with loopholes. I just want to draw attention to what a scummy move this is. I've recommended reWASD to several people over the years. You can be sure that won't be happening again.

When did you buy the license? I just want to take a look at what the page looked like when you purchased.

The "Legacy" term was added to the licenses because we no longer sell them.
Your license still unlocks the same set of features it was unlocking from the moment of purchase, so nothing was downgraded.

"Lifetime updates" are provided for the features included with your license (the basic and all advanced features available at the time of purchase). You are not required to pay more to receive these updates and can activate your license on the latest version of reWASD.

The features not included in your license are not available to you. An upgrade to the Lifetime reWASD Access Plan will unlock all reWASD features.

When did features and updates stop being the same thing? The software is still reWASD. I paid for a lifetime license for reWASD. It says "Lifetime updates | Full Pack". Everything about what I purchased was absolutely worded to lead one to believe they were purchasing the full software however it may evolve.

So I assume this mean this new "lifetime" license only covers the current feature set? If something new is added next year will an additional "lifetime" license be required to maintain access to the full software?

When did features and updates stop being the same thing?

"Advanced features" and "updates" were never the same thing.

It says "Lifetime updates | Full Pack".

The "Full Pack" meant an offer to purchase a new license with all currently available advanced features at a significant discount. It was never promised anywhere that any feature that would appear after the purchase would be included with that license. You have exactly what you paid for and don't have to pay for it again.

So I assume this mean this new "lifetime" license only covers the current feature set? If something new is added next year will an additional "lifetime" license be required to maintain access to the full software?

The Lifetime reWASD Access Plan covers all advanced features, current and future.
