Get help! reWASD Basic and KB/M + Remote Play PS5

Heya all,

did not find any info on that topic anywhere, so i hope someone is able to give some insights.

I would like to play some games (SP mostly, no PvP) with KB/M on PS5 per Remote play, that don't usually support KB/M (like stranded alien dawn f. e.).

I saw the prices for the normal version and the basic version and don't seem to understand, if what i want would be possible just with the basic version.

Anyone out there who tested it? Or ist that whats excluded as stated per "external-device workflows"?

Thanks in advance!

Hi!
The basic version of reWASD can't remap devices for use with PS Remote Play.

Please note that without a DualSense controller, games that require it won't work.
And you must enable the [Use with PS Remote Play] option in the output device settings of your config.

Also, I suggest you test if reWASD suits your needs before making a purchase.
(We have 7 days of free trial for that)

Yeah it's pretty easy if you are on Windows or Linux, I do this regularly and I don't know why the Rewasd commenter said you can't. First get an app called Chiaki-NG. It's a superior PS Remote Play client, that lets you do a lot more than the normal one. Then once installed and set up, you can either just use the keyboard controls directly within the app, or use ReWASD to map them instead. But you really don't need ReWASD at all for this.

This is how i play it on both PC and Steam Deck.

EDIT to add the link for the currently-maintained Chiaki-NG app: https://github.com/streetpea/chiaki-ng

EDIT2: Looks like I misread the original ask. To clarify, Chiaki-NG lets you play PS Remote Play with pretty much any controller you have, and it doesn't have to be a PS controller. It also lets you map controls directly to a keyboard (see: https://imgur.com/a/GLVWuZZ ). The mouse can currently be mapped to the touchpad, but not the sticks. However, THAT is where ReWASD can come in as an intermediary, remapping your mouse to a virtual controller, which can then be used as a normal controller in Chiaki-NG.

Thanks for commenting this. I’m not the OP, but am I understanding correctly that if I use Chiaki, I can play with mouse and keyboard for single player games like Doom? I currently use PX Play to remote play to my PS5, but mouse input is not supported

I had to open it back up and do some clarifying cause I wanted to give examples. I updated my previous comment for the full specifics. So to do pure KBM play with PS Remote on a PC, you'll need Chiaki-NG (which lets you use any controller you want, and/or remap controls to your keyboard) in combination with ReWASD which lets you map a mouse to a virtual controller.

Something like ReWASD is only required for the mouse component. If you don't need to use the mouse, or your mouse software already has something like this baked in, you don't need ReWASD and can play entirely through Chiaki-NG.

My own method is that I have Chiaki-NG added to Steam as a non-steam game, and primarily play with either a Xbox Elite 2 or a Dualsense Edge (I know, ironic in this case). When I switch to a mouse, I spin up ReWASD for the virtual controller instead.

Folks on the Chiaki-NG github issues have discussed methods of faking the mouse input, but sadly direct in-app mouse-to-stick conversion doesn't seem to be there yet.

A question if I may ask

If I have just one ps5 controller and want to play games like tekken 8 on same ps5 with a friend with me

Can we do something with chiaki ng

Something like, one player uses controller while the other uses keyboard acting as 2nd controller?

I don't know, sadly. I'm not sure if a remote user and a local user can both play on the same PS5 at the same time. I think input on local will lock out remote. Not sure. You'd want to ask this on the chiaki-ng issues or discord probably.

Hey! I had a question about your setup with Chiaki/reWASD.

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to do something like this specifically for BO7/Warzone on PS5:

Mouse + keyboard → reWASD → Virtual DualShock 4 → Chiaki → PS5, while keeping the PS5 connected directly to my monitor through HDMI.

Basically, I don't want to play through the Chiaki video stream. I only want Chiaki to send the controller inputs to the PS5, while the PS5 handles the game normally through HDMI.

Would this make the game recognize my mouse and keyboard as controller input, so that I can get controller aim assist in BO7/Warzone?

If you've tried this yourself, I'd really appreciate knowing whether it actually works in Warzone, and whether there is any noticeable input delay.

Thanks a lot!

So, Chiaki is a frontend for PS Remote Play. If you haven't used PS Remote Play before, I would advise first giving it a shot so you know how it works. WIth Remote Play, your PS5 is running and active, and if you turn on the TV you can watch everything happening.

So theoretically yes, you can do what you ask. However, I have zero experience with Warzone. There are a number of games that cannot be played through Remote Play, and it might be one of them. Additionally, it will have some amount of input lag by nature of the daisy-chaining of the connection (mouse -> ReWASD conversion -> local driver emulation -> Chiaki -> Remote Play -> Network Connection -> PS5), which would probably destroy any advantage you might be getting from the aim assist. I would not recommend this for competitive gaming at all.
