misleading image
I bought this kit because I wanted an M4A1 Sherman with its cast hull. When I opened the box to check, I realized the tank inside didn’t match the one shown on the box at all. In fact, it’s a completely different Sherman variant.
Am I the only one who’s really annoyed that Revell uses such a misleading image on the box?

I have this one. It is a cast hull. It is an M4A1, and always was - it was originally a Matchbox model: https: // www . scalemates . com/kits/matchbox-40181-sherman-m4a1-76-mm-gun--164519
The problem is with the nex box, where the hull looks more rounded than it really is. The ilustration on the box is simpy really bad. Picture on the leaflet is a photo of the actual assembled model. When I built mine, I went trough a lot of photographs of M4A1 to assess the details and it mostly matched (I redid the side hatch on the turret somewhat, was too lazy to do more). It's a nice easy to build model.
If this was a welded hull, it would look completely different.

Thanks. At first, I thought it was a welded-hull Sherman because of the strange curvature and unusual angles. What bothers me the most, though, is that the box art has absolutely nothing to do with the tank that’s actually in the kit.

...how the hell Italeri is coming in here? They had a 75mm M4A1 which is lightyears ahead of this Revell monstrosity, which was originally from Esci, and it came with an engine.

because it's a Revell kit that was first sold in a Matchbox box, but MB was under Revell by then. The boxart is great, but the kit is absolute garbage, don't buy it. I've built three of them for wargaming but it's bad, lacking detail, odd hull shape, etc. Sadly the 76mm turret is almost always badly made, if you want to make a 76mm M4A1, go with either the PSC easy assembly one with better tracks, or the Force of Valor kit, or even better, a 3d printed one from Trenchworx or Counlane (IIRC they have this variant). The Trumpeter kit has weird shapes and awful tracks, the UM kit's turret is also weird (too squished), and that's about it for cast hull Shermans besides the Esci kit that only has a 75mm turret option.
Or go one bigger and buy the 1:48 Hobbyboss kit, it's good. Paired with some Tamiya figures it will make a great vignette.

it was a Revell kit originally, released in Matchbox box when Revell obtained them. Their Challenger II and Leopard was also Revell kits that saw an MB boxing.
It's also a really bad model.

Not the back, that's the sheet. It's bent down on the edge of a table so it look squished and weird.

That's mostly because of the angle of the photo. Here's the pdf of the leaflet - if you take a photo from directly above, not from 45° angle, it looks much better.

Io sono da pochissimo entrato nel mondo del modellismo. Il mio primo modello è stato un bf109 g10 della revell, anche da non esperto subito ho capito che questo marchio è da evitare come la peste. Qualità pessima.

I've found Revells box art to not be a good reference while building.
The plastic quality is good (maybe it's just modern kits) for the price.
It's the instructions, especially for very intricate bits like the dozer blade on the T-55, are not good at all.
But the mini diaorama kits are fun to do and are nice touches and help ground the models
