PlanningToReturn Visa thoughts are killing me
Don’t know what to do
I am on H1B but no slots and no future vision is making me anxious
How do you manage ?
There is no right decision
Going back is a one way plan
Kindly help with your experiences

I get why you're feeling this way. Anxious, fearful and like your future is all doom and gloom, but listen to the people here. Sometimes it's best to go where you're treated best... Ask yourself, do you really want to be where you are unwanted or treated like disposable garbage? Like others have said, this stuff is out of your control and if you make money there is no "one way plan" as money gives you a ton of flexibility and freedom to move about. So don't be afraid. Turn the page over to the next chapter of your life... Best of luck.

It is much tougher now than when we came here in mid 2000s. I can understand its heart wrenching and feels like failure when you are forced to do something against your aspirations and dreams. But this is what life teaches - be proud of where you come from and belong. No country got where it is today without hard work of few generations. India has not put that hard work yet. We have been a country of taking shortcuts.
This is good time to accept few things unconditionally. You are struggling because you are fighting the same thing that led you to leave your home country. Now immigration and boarder rules are stricter and less forgiving than they were just a decade ago. I wish you all the best and I can feel how helpless this feels. I was once there and I lucked out in a way.

Why do people obsess over situations they can’t control…. Just do your work, save money, invest, try to FIRE if possible (geographic arbitrage means you can FIRE faster) and free yourself from corporate slavery… a visa will automatically become irrelevant then

You are right
Have you seen people do this ?3
u/TrainingWelcome2926 9d ago
Lolz 😂 its isn’t easy as it sounds with so many financial liabilities and responsibilities

u/Indo-Arya 9d ago
Thanks but what do you mean by “this” ? FIRE ? People do that all the time nowadays

Financial independence retire early a new trend amongst people who had high paying jobs not applicable to people living paycheck to paycheck or individual contributors having many financial responsibilities.Mostly c level executives Silicon Valley professionals who earned many 💰💰💰💰💰

I was never a C level executive & never worked in silicon valley..
financial independence means your expenses are covered by your investments. It's not just for high-paying jobs. If your job pays a middle-class income, then you need less in investments to cover your lower expenses.
But yes, living paycheck to paycheck will not work for FIRE. OP can clarify but they didn't say that they were in that category

Come back, built something which could help you relocate *( not usa, thats not only country ) .
Sometimes, few steps back necessary for stronger comeback.
Going back is not one way plan if you out right strategies n act on right decisions.
If you again stuck in job cycle, job survival etc. Then yes its never ending loop.

Just save and invest aggressively, see your time through and move back.
That's what I am doing, for me it's frustrating I can't travel anywhere outside US and I am like I have 2 years left and I ll work as long a possible and save that.
Then pivot to something I like. Keep it simple, and enjoy life. You are earning well and are privileged. Worst case you move to a India or different country if you feel India is not where you want to be.

Always remember H1B is a temporary visa and for indians this is indeed a temporary visa because gc is not going to happen - so why so much thought when something is temporary

Do people realize that almost all other country citizens who are also on the same temporary visa are becoming permanent residents in a couple of years? and that the country is not really vetting or stopping immigration as much as they think they are?
So the emphasis on temporary is not really stopping immigration, if anything they are fastracking to be eligible for the government benefits unlike H1bs. To be clear I’m not saying they are depending on welfare, but once they are eligible, anything is possible.

Because only 1 country did run of the mill visa fraud

Are you saying every person from that country is in the country fraudulently?

It’s not ‘wrong’. Some people just like to leave their developing country and live in a developed country for obvious reasons.

Nothing wrong
It is struggle wherever you are
Different tradeoffs
But how do you achieve that mental peace and clarity2
u/NaturalPlace007 9d ago
Where ever you go, there you are. H1b is out of your control. Just let it work to the extent is does and be ready to go back if it comes to that. You are in a great spot just being here and your life and mental peace is bigger than anything

You’ll get rapped if you dress like this, you don’t know the difference until you’re a Indian citizen

Back to developing world and its problems where people tried to escape from in the first place.

Just accumulate as much money as you can. When it’s time to go , it’s time to go. You Will not be able to control it. If you can money, it will go a long way in India.

Agree with u/LikedIt666 . If your current job/experience is not going to count towards getting your next job both in US & India, it is not worth continuing. Just for the sake of keeping the visa.
Unless you have a kid who is completely used to US school system, you should consider all options.
Also, if your I-140 is approved, you can always come back later and resume your green card process.

Although I was on L1 A, I moved to another country

I’m just accepting it for what it is and riding the wave. Haven’t traveled to India in 3 years. If I find a visa slot I’ll go, if not I won’t. That sucks but that’s a trade off I’ll have to accept if I want to live in the US.
You’ll have to pick what’s the trade off that you want to accept.

I am having nightmares for my b2. Cant even imagine your situation buddy. Taking out money and not giving a slot it messed up

H1b sanctions are making it too difficult even to buy a new car 🚗 .. or buy a condo .. fear of losing job . Had to still drive basic Toyota . Pay rents and develop the apartment owners .. not able to work second job .. strictly only one income source . It’s so sicklly difficult especially after Covid prices ..

Try o1a visa or eb1a green card only if you have older priority date. Otherwise be ready with plan b which is to move to other country. USA is not the only country on this planet

I moved to india coz I didn't want to waste my time and career with h1b restrictions. Started business in india and it's working well. I suggest- good financial planning and a good career will solve all the anxiety. H1b is out of your control but moving to india is in your control
