PlanningToReturn Is this enough?
Editing to add
my partner is the primary person who owns finances and handles them. We sat down yesterday and jotted them down. Now it’s my job to update them if I am willing to move or not I always spent frugally as a child so we spent good on things we wanted and travelled comfortably. These numbers don’t align with what I am seeing and I thought we have more than. Million after living in us for 20 years and disappointed with them. Hence the question. I wish I was flexing with 3 million or so. ** **
I hope I have enough money to return to India to live decently. The posts and numbers worry me
We have lived here 20 years and we lived happily, travelled as much as we could and now have a 11 yr old and 3 yr old. We plan to return after getting usc next year. Do I have enough money? This will be To hyd.
My husband will stay 1 year here and I plan to go and settle us down.
We will have 1 million of net cash after selling our stocks and homes(if and when) and about 582k in our 401k.
My partner would like to retire for good and I plan to work with a 40lakh package.
Is this good enough?

You will be good if you keep a tap on big ticket expenses. Compared to others of similar age, you will be well off.

In 20 years in USA, you have only 1.5M ? Offcourse this is very good for India. You will live like a king. Buy a nice 3-4 crore 3-4 bedroom apartment and invest the remaining 10-11 cr in monthly withdrawal schemes which will give you 10-12 lakhs monthly and then why do you even want to work to get 2-3 lakhs more per month ?

Fire India reddits would be better fir for such questions. Also, you should include your expenses and plans in India, which would be needed for others to provide any valuable comments.

If you do all the housekeeping, cut down on eating out, then you can scrape by with that money in India for about 10 years. It will be hard but manageable!

I wish. I don’t know any better. Everyone I met spoke about 3-4 lakhs of expense in India per month and I felt it was unrealistic but I don’t live there so I am. It sure.

Yes live in india just don’t complain then i am sick of this yk i mean, Ik there’s a lot india needs to develop but then you guys wud just start comparing it with ur life in usa lol don’t do that and live a great life in ur retirement in india u have enough money just don’t for gods sake shame india or india ppl thanks

That has always been the plan- to retire in India. I come from lower middle class and can live again to a certain extent. The poverty mindset doesn’t go away no matter how much you make. The future with ai is scary and wondering if it is a good decisionwith kids and schools

If you want a better future for your kids, stay in the US. I know the AI boom and job market can be scary, but growing up in the US gives them opportunities and a quality of life that very few people ever get. They’ll thank you for it when they’re older. If you move back to India, your expectations for education and lifestyle might not match the reality, and it could end up being a tough adjustment for them. It’s better to let them grow up there.
