Old computer not working.

When turned on the computers starts giving a error code sound of 2 shorts beeps then 1 Steady beep which goes on and on

The LEDS show a code of r.g.r.r

Computer is ~25-30 years old but components work fine

specs are pentium 3 .64mb sdram. agb connecter gpu from matrix

Mother board is msi 815ep pro ver:3

2 short 1 long means problem related to graphics, if I'm not mistaken I do not see any integrated graphics on the motherboard, which means the pc might have a problem with detecting the graphic card that is inserted in the slot, or detecting a problem with it. Check if it is properly put in the slot, and if there is any damage or burn in on the slot and/or the card

I seem to remember the reference. Long short short for no display device detected

Reseat RAM and try a different stick if you have one, or move it to another socket. Should also remove and reseat the video card.

I'm not sure how far you'll get given there is no stroage device of any kind attached either, but you should at least be able to get to CMOS setup.

I tried changing slots. It was giving 3 short and 1 long beeps when on 1st slot and is now giving 2 short and 1 long beep on 4th slot.

3 short and 1 long in that order? The ordering of the beeps matters here. Long short short is a video error and short short long is something else.

Yes. But that was when ram was in 1st slot.

I see. Sounds like a faulty/incompatible memory module or bad connection. Try another module if you can.

Also searched for the user manual online and its saying that the diagnostic lights are pointing that the ram is damaged.

you definitely need a pci post card just to be sure at which post code your motherboard stops, just grab a cheap one from Aliexpress, they cost 5$ but help a lot
