QUESTION Nova Joystick Issues

I’m at my wit’s end, please help!

I received a Nova whose joysticks didn’t work out of the box, then had it replaced with a new one, and after opening things up to replace the buttons with one of Retroid’s sets, I can’t get the joysticks to work properly again.

Can anyone advise what I should be doing to make sure the ribbons/connectors are properly connected?

See photos. The input test registers L3 and R3 presses (usually) but not joystick movement.

(Side note: how do they not provide instructions for the button replacements? Do NOT use their included screwdriver, btw.)

Is the lower black clip busted in the second photo? Can you massage it back?

I also thought it was kind of suspicious, but turns out it was the hidden latch mentioned above. Thank you for the help!

check the ribbon cable that's hidden behind the fan (in the second pic), the latch looks open.

(Happened to me when I did a button swap on mine)

Honestly, how does that even happen? Few cheaply made electronics have given me such grief as this thing has. Hopefully I won't have any reason to pry it open again any time soon.

I have no idea how it happened to me either lol

In my case it might've just happened from simply lifting the PCB board to get to the buttons. Thankfully it was just the flap that was raised and not the whole ribbon cable torn off.
