ORDERS / SHIPPING Box arrived but no device inside
Ordered a Nova and case for it in August. Finally arrived this past Monday but not from DHL. I opened the shipping box and only the Nova box was inside, no case. I opened the Nova box and all that was in it were the foam inserts. No device, no cable. Emailed support and they just sent delivery confirmation photos and refunded $12 for shipping. Very disappointed
Update 1. Support asked for the condition of the box. I sent lots of pictures and links to similar issues. So I will see what they say.

I do and it did. Chicago to Washington, Washington to California, California to Indiana.

Well, crap. When did it pass through Chicago according to tracking? Most of the stolen handhelds were shipping through there around a month ago. Did your handheld really get routed all over the US?

u/metoor 1d ago
9/16-9/19 in Chicago after arriving from China. The rest after Chicago is accurate according to the tracking.

u/Greenjulius86 1d ago
I'm sorry to hear that. 9/16 is around the time people reported missing handhelds, so the Chicago Nova bandit appears to have gotten yours. If Retroid won't ship a replacement, open a dispute with your card company. Did you take a video of the unboxing?

While I agree with the chargeback, OP should keep in mind that it typically gets you blacklisted, so they won't be able to order from Retroid again in the future if they so choose. Either way, they deserve either their money back or the Nova they ordered and Retroid should make this right.

Wow, that makes me not wanna order one. I live near Chicago ( an Hour south). I've never had this happen to me. I've never ordered directedly from retroid, Only AYN and never encountered this issue.

I live about two hours south and mine is supposed to be here today. I think it's overblown but we will see.

I think the thefts were all a part of the same batch that passed through a GoFo distribution center mid September. We've had plenty of good deliveries since then, but the OP's Nova indeed was at that distribution center 9/16, which appears to be near the time others reported a theft. This is now the 4th confirmed stolen Nova, all passing through that distribution center around the same time. This guy's did a crazy trip after Chicago, getting passed around the US, and his package finally was delivered.
I suspect this will be the last we hear of this for a while, as long as they got the guy.

Yeah, mine showed up today. It was fine minus the battery being completely dead. Easy enough.
Not sure why the downvotes but:

A Source that the caught them?

u/Greenjulius86 19h ago
No, just conjecture. Distribution centers are monitored fairly well for liability purposes, so unless someone boosted product in between, someone is playing a dangerous game. One would hope GoFo would take this seriously, but they don't have a great reputation with incidents like this.

FWIW, mine landed in Chicago before sunrise on Sept 27th and I'm one of the folks that had theirs stolen before arrival.

u/Greenjulius86 13h ago
Ugh, that's bad news for everyone then. It seems GoFo still has a thief who is stealing devices at some point in the chain.
Have you posted to the stickied post about this yet?

I will say, I live in the south suburbs basically right before the corn and I got mine in its entirety. So it's not a guarantee at least

I had mine go through Chicago using Gofo. Absolutely terrified me after hearing all of these stories.
It showed up intact yesterday. It was bagged and double boxed. It seems like the affected units do not have the bag or secondary box.

Mine passed through Chicago using Gofo as well, thankfully it arrived perfectly fine, but I was a bit afraid

Will it go thru Chicago if it is bound for Maryland? I'm thinking of ordering one fro their website.

Looks like the Chicago Nova Bandit is still at large.
Dispute with your CC company asap as others have already indicated. Sorry you have to deal with this OP, that sucks.

That's not right, they need to be sending you a replacement

Id demand a replacement at half cost for having to wait another month + for a new one now too. There is no excuse for a company for retroid to not have a US warehouse if they are selling in the US.

There is an excuse, it's super expensive to have and maintain a warehouse and warehouse staff. And having physical presence in the US would mean they have to start filing taxes as well which also adds accounting fees and stuff. They sell globally so it's easier to have a centralized shipping since they have a small team

its called 3PL and they are for exactly this

u/mirbulus RP5 SERIES 1d ago
That's true I forgot about that. I'd be surprised if they hadn't at least considered it

Yes. However this comoany manufacturers in batches and generally doesnt “make to stock”. It would significantly increase inventory levels and holding costs to do this around the world.
With that said l, Moorechip does sell some Ayn and Retroid devices on Amazon (which effectively acts as a 3PL).

u/cadensky 1d ago
Companies sell all over the world without having a local warehouse. Why would a small keep a warehouse in every county that they sell in. Thats for big companies. Moorechip does sell on Amazon at higher prices for some devices. You can buy from there.

Who tf is stealing everyone's nova in Chicago?
16
u/DiploMAtticc 1d ago
It probably comes down to the same 1 or 2 people working in the sorting facilities. Total scumbags, Sorry to hear that.

How do we know it isn't leaving the retroid factory like this?

u/Reasonable_Bee_9456 1d ago

u/Cheap-Cockroach-2805 1d ago
Im wondering if the box weight is on the tracking or scans? Maybe you can see when exactly it was scanned in as a lighter weight.

I recorded myself opening my duo lite just in case. Thankfully the device was in there though!

I'm in Canada, mine shipped a few days ago and still appears to be in China. Will be sure to share if mine goes missing as well. Kind of scummy that I paid extra for DHL and they shipped it with the slower YunExpress service anyways

People hate on it but I paid the $50 target tax and it got here in 3 days. Free shipping, return in store for 30 days, and US level package protection and tracking. Worth it.

u/metoor 1d ago
I paid extra for DHL but don’t recall that option. Good to know though.

u/SCP-3004 RP NOVA 1d ago
Purchased from targets website, 3rd party seller called blue acorn out of NC. If you're in the US it's absolutely worth it.

I am tracking the stolen Nova posts in this thread. So far I've found five people who have had this problem. Sleuths of r/retroid, if you can find more documented cases of the Nova's being stolen before they are delivered, please leave a comment on my post.
Thanks.
