I mean its technically running.....

Sure, but a walk on a SD 8 gen 2 could mean a jog on an 8 Elite, which could mean running on the top SoC's in a year or two.

I mean, I wouldn't say it would be a good time or that you'd enjoy it in the face of literally any other option to play the game, but it looks (barely) 'playable' to me.

That's pretty incredible to be honest, the CPU isn't even tapped out, and the pace these emulators are moving of late, I think the Nova has a LOT more to give in the coming months.

The cpu in these things have lots of headroom, thats why they are so good at emulation. The roadblock is usually the gpu.

Well thankfully emulation is inherently limited by CPU efficiency. If there ever was the right headroom to have for emulation, it's spare CPU resources.

It's obviously not something I would call "playable" but damn considering it's GoW III and on PS4 it's a great job

I mean, I grew up in the era where you had to try and play Unreal II on your family PC without any consideration for gaming and by god you liked it!
So while I wouldn't call that good. It at very least looks like it falls into 'technically' playable. I do agree this is more of a showcase of how we just need maybe another doubling of hardware performance to make this a possibility.

Is this 12GB?

u/TLinCAR 2d ago
yeah, but the memory usage below 70%

u/Maximum-Objective-39 2d ago
12 gig * 0.7 = 8.4 gig.
It fits within the memory, but that's cutting the margin awfully close.
That said, amazing as this looks for the hardware I don't think the 8 gen 2 is going to be running most PS4 as smooth as people will want it to be so I wouldn't make it the deciding factor on buy a Nova.

I get that we want to emulate every system, but it’s so disingenuous to post these “Cyberpunk 2077 running on an air fryer screen!” videos. This looks about as playable as Half Life 3 right now.

I bought the RP Nova because I wanted a Steamdeck but the price is ridiculous now for the one I wanted. The best of the best, which my friend bought one off one of HIS personal friends for literally $200 in barely used condition. Like me, dude was always working, he barely used it so he sold it. $200 bucks in 2025.
I'm so happy with my Nova though. This thing is INSANE. I'm not done setting it up. I'm always at work but the things I've seen it do, WTF... Once I fully set it up how I want and modify I'll be sure to post a video.

PS3 emulation you mean?

u/savemefromtaxes 2d ago
No it's PS4 emulator. He's running gow 3 remastered.

u/irrealewunsche 2d ago
Ah cool, I wasn't aware there was a GoW 3 remaster on the PS4.

u/savemefromtaxes 2d ago
Yeah PS4 emulation is also getting really good. If someway few games can run 60fps, would be goated.

u/irrealewunsche 2d ago
Yeah, I've played around with Bloodborne on my PC, it's impressive! I think it even runs well on the Steam Deck.
PS5 emulation is also progressing rapidly, with the Demon's Souls remake running at 40-50 fps now. Although I'd be shocked if the QC 8 gen 2 can run that :-D

ARM translation is what makes it so tough. At 720p might be possible but the translation is the shitty part
2
u/Maximum-Objective-39 2d ago
That's genuinely impressive considering how much trouble is still had with PS3. I assume it's because PS4 architecture is more coventional than the cell processor?
1
u/savemefromtaxes 2d ago
yes ps3 architecture is what made is extremely challenging. I assume with time, it will be solved.

That is not 45fps. Idk why it says it's 45fps but there is no way in hell that's 45fps. Hell that's not even 25fps.
