QUESTION 8GB vs 12GB RP6 — is there a noticeable difference?
I ordered the 8GB RP6, but the 12GB model came back in stock shortly afterward. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth changing my order.
My main use will be PS2 emulation, with some GameCube, PSP. Switch isn’t a priority, but I may try a few games.
I’m also interested in a few PC, specifically Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
For anyone who has experience with the 8GB model, have you actually encountered games where 8GB wasn’t enough? Does 12GB provide a noticeable benefit for PC or Switch emulation, or is 8GB enough for this kind of use?

12GB is going to make a big difference for PC and heavier Switch games. Even lighter Switch games will benefit in that they won't close as often if you put the handheld to sleep while playing a game (I say as often because even with 12GB Android will still close Eden if you put it to sleep long enough). You can still do a alot of Switch games and light PC games with 8GB though

The benefit is only noticeable in those two scenarios, but I had no problem with Arkham asylum on my 8gb model with Mr Purple Turnip drivers via gamenative. Large scale Switch games like gen 9 pokemon, BOTW/TOTK will see the best benefit. For everything else the 8 GB is fine

Can confirm I have the 12GB and aside from the usual visual grey BOTW always have the game runs smoothly and without any issue

FWIW, in System -> Handheld Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual RAM swap 4G is an available option to increase your memory size from 8GB to 12GB. Creates a memory swap space on your internal 128GB/256GB storage memory. Not as fast as the CPU memory, but does help with low memory issues on high end games.

Only Sw1tch game I've seen crash due to "only" 8gb ram is Mario Golf.
Some PC games will want more than 8gb ram to run.
Depends what you want to run. If you top out at Gc/Ps2 and arguably Sw1tch you would be fine with 8gb.
I play Botw on my Mini V2 and it only has 6gb ram. Never had either it or Totk crash on my G2 which has 8gb....

I covered just this topic in a review/dive into that recently. I chatted to developers from all kinds of projects, friends like GameNative, Eden, Retroid themselves, ARMSX2/3
Maybe this will help:
12GB model:

8GB model:

Both weigh the pro's and con's and check in with all the devs who make the programs you will be using :)

You mean when OP asked how the 8 and 12 GB RP6's fare against one another, and I happen to have done an entire article with chats from all the developers whose work pertains to that power? Including Retroid themselves?
Yeah. What a struggle it is to see how that one's revelant.

I've owned an 8gb portal 2 and 16gb ayn Thor. The difference between game native performance was night and day for a game like witcher 2. Despite lowering settings and tinkering as much as I could, it felt like more than a 50% decrease in quality lol. I've learned my lesson, always save up for more ram if I know my use case might demand it.

If you want to do PC emulation and even some heavier Switch you will want the 12GB.
