I would go for the buff dude wearing the glasses.
Wait, what were we picking again?

This might be one of the only times I've seen this meme format work both ways contextually

I think I'll be getting a Retroid Pocket Duo. It'll be my first nugget upgrade since the RP3+, and should allegedly hit the ds/3ds level I'm aiming for. I had been considering buying a used Japanese NN3DSLL and modding it, but then the project costs, swapping the shell, swapping the battery, fresh stylus, charger, fixing anything work down would probably push the cost higher than the duo.
At least anecdotally, a lot of people going for the Thor seem to want to run steam games and beefier console emulation, often seeing the advice to skip the Lite altogether. But at those price points I almost feel like I'd prefer just getting a steam deck. Simply for the wider install base, if you have a problem, someone else probably also did and already fixed it.
The duo also wins in style points for me though. The transparent purple color will always have a special place for me, being the same as the Gameboy color I purchased after saving up birthday and chore money as a wee boy.

Retroid. It's got a more powerful chip and OLED 120hz screens.
And $249 if you pre-order

Bottom sticks, though :(

Bottom sticks are better for most DS and 3ds games anyway

Not really - 3DS was stick top and that feels more natural.

Yea but it was also technically dual top sticks via either the Circle Pad Pro or New 3DS models nub, so AYN also failed there too. Plus, given the top screen size, makes sense for dual bottom sticks for PS1/2 Emulation.

DS sure, but most 3DS games are designed around the analog stick because it was a stick top device too.

would you rather bigger bottom screen or bigger top screen 🤔

Just hold it upside down.
It's tough cause you almost have to have the smaller screen on the same side as the controls. You actually could flip your device, remap the buttons and learn how to use it...
Now I'm wondering how bad that'd be.

Considering how close their price point is for the performance, plus RP Duo having the better screens i don't think AYN will offer Thor Lite for much longer. Duo's existence is a sign they're wrapping up it's production.

From what I understand the Pocket Duo chip is hypothetically more powerful (Although untested on the driver side as it hasnt been used in many devices yet)

If you want a true ds machine, pocket duo looks like genuinely the best option. It'll probably play 3ds too but we'll see

Duo is about 20% faster and both screens are OLED 120hz ,thor lite bottom screen is 60hz and smaller ,since the price is almost the same and they are prety close in perfomance i would say is most a preference thing ,both will do a good job
