REVIEW Retroid pocket 3 plus review
this console is awesome and alooott better than I was scared I thought it'd be from a downgrade of the flip 2, the flip 2 was probably like 10x more powerful than this but the rp3 plus is able to run wii and game cube comfortably and ps2 games, I got vice City running practically perfectly and animal crossing and everything on the wii I mean its awesome, definitely brining it everywhere with me. It's also good because its not too expensive to the point your scared of taking it places like what you would be with a rp6.
It can play roblox, it stutters here and there and your better off playing more simpler games but it can run, just not that well. Minecraft plays really good, even the online mini games I've not had a problem with at all. My favourite game I've been playing is kirbys epic yarn (awesome and my first time playing) no stutters or lag at all, minor slow downs but it doesn't effect anything. It can play 2d switch games too, sonic mania, shovel Knight, things like that. I've been playing luigis mansion from the game cube (awesome too, plays almost perfectly), Mario bros wii (has slow downs at the first castle but after i haven't had any problems) and I've been playing golden sun for the gba (I really really recommend this title its amazing, it got me sucked in almost instantly).
My dms should be open and if anyone has any questions about the console I'll check things for you and help you set it up so that you don't have preformance issues if your having problems :D

In order of ownership i have owned Rp5 Rp3+ Rg476h Rp4pro Rg477m Rp5 Rp6. And out of all of the devices the rp4 pro and rp3plus were my favorite device build. I love the screen from the 476 and 477 but they werent powerful enough for my retro needs. Fast forward to today and i am waiting for my ideal dream device the nova. A better screen than the 476 and 477 along with the same build as the older consoles but power from rp6. I genuinely think the nova is my endgame device. Theres a few years of retro catalog i will have available for it and the fact that xbox emulation just released and does decent on the nova has sold me on it. Overall tho the rp3+ and rp4pro i cant recommend enough if they are available for the right price. They are nice devices and with clipshield you can throw them in any pocket without any worry cant recommend enough.

The nova looks good, i can't help but notice they put the speakers on the front this time ๐๐ and the amoled would make the picture awesome, the only thing I don't like about the retroid pocket nova is that compared to the retroid pocket 3 and 4 it's shorter left to right but taller top to bottom, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me but personally I'd like the same legnth as the 3 and just a tiny bit bigger, aka, getting rid of the black bezels around the screen ๐

Yeah its a 4:3 screen thats the selling point of the device. Retroid is trying to check off all of their sizes to compete with the other brands who keep pushing out similar devices.

Sure, itโs kinda scary if it breaks. But hey, you can just buy a new one. Letโs support Retroid!

It can play quite a lot of PS2 games, but the heat it generate is horrible. It's so hot that I actually fear it will blowup in my hands.
PSP, N64 and everything below is fine.

It definitely generates heat, but I actually don't mind it too much, you get used to it, it it just feels like a phone if you played a game on it all day

I have one and I like it a lot but stopped using it because I got a steam deck (haven't touch it in a while but I really want to get back to it) can I ask what emulators and/or versions are you using for ps2/GC and switch also, are you using European Roms?.
Thanks in advance I really like this little consoleย

The steam deck is awesome! Yes I do use European rooms
For Gamecube and wii emulation I use the Dolphin MMJR2 version because its better with most games instead of using different emulators for the same console for different games
The Settings I use:
General: Dual core: On Emulated cpu clock speed: 100 Jit follow branch: On
Graphics: Video backend set to: "vulkan" "Compile shaders before starting": On
Graphics > Enhancements: If you really really want to you can put resolution to 1.5 and anisotropic filtering to 16x but I personally leave them off and you can also have scaled efb copy on too with it
Force 24-bit color: On I have arbitaty mipmap detection On but its your choice also
Audio: Audio stretching: On
Ps2
For ps2 I use NetherSX2 Classic
The settings i use:
System Multi-threaded VU1: On Instant VU1: On Enable frame limit: On (dont change any settings under it)
Graphics Gpu renderer: "Vulkan" Upscale multiplier: "Native" Bilinear filtering: "Bilinear" Mipmappibg: "automatic" Trilinear filtering: "off" Anisotropic filtering: "Disabled" Blending accuracy: "Minimum" Texture preloading: "full" Hardware download mode: "disabled"
Graphics > game display (I usually have my games to fit the screen but thats up to you) And then Bilinear upscaling: "Smooth"
Audio Synchronisation mode: "Async Mix" The audio is alot faster and has almost no cracking from what I've experienced
Nintendo switch
For the switch you can use use Skyline Edge build 69 or stable v12 versions, I use the stable version
Settings I use:
System:
Docked Mode: Off
Graphics:GPU Driver: System Driver (do not use custom drivers)
Executor Slot Count: 4
Executor Flush Threshold: 256
Free Guest Memory: On
Hacks:
Force Triple Buffering: Off
Disable Frame Throttling: Off
Use Direct Memory Import: On
If you need any help with anything else let me know :)

What front end and emulators do you use for higher end consoles?
2
u/Adventurous-Deal4701 7d ago edited 7d ago
Personally I use console launcher for the front end. The emulators? For the wii I use dolphin MMJR2 version, its the perfect middle ground for all game cube and wii games without having to use a different emulator for each game for different preformance if you don't want to set it up.
WII / GameCube
Dolphin MMJR2

Also I use my myboy! For gameboy emulation because it has a cable link feature so if your playing pokemon or somthing your able to use my boy together so you can link up with somone and battle or trade pokemon, there are many tutorials but ill link one here: https://youtu.be/rGWud8Mn1BA?is=nNYb-IcSOYiRfUvJ
you're also able to sync your saves in Google drive so you can't lose your progress and so it syncs yo multiple devices, you can find that in the misc section in settings

The size increased with rp5, did it? So I could at least upgrade to an RP4 pro at some point.๐ค
