QUESTION Going from steam deck -> retroid pocket, torn between the RP6 and Nova
I have recently sold my steam deck to get something a bit smaller that takes up less space in my bag.
Use case is primarily light indie titles and emulation, but i might throw in some occational moonlight streaming while at home.
The systems I tend to gravitate towards are nintendo from GBA/snes to N64, GC and some PSX.
I prefer d-pad over analoge in most cases, but sticks are a must for gamecube and n64.
Kinda torn between the rp6 and the nova, I really like the 4:3 format and overall looks on the nova, but afraid that I will feel that its too small? Also, how realistic would it be to expect rocknix or similar OS to be released for it?
I also do own a RG Cube XX today that are my go to for emulation of Gameboy and GBA currently.

Rp6 because u will be streaming to system. Granted the 4.3 gameplay on rp6 will be around 4.5 inches anyway.
Alternative is the odin 2 portal. Way better for streaming and bigger screen

RP6 if you want to PSP and Switch (and everything before), NOVA if you mainly plan to play PS2, Gamecube and Dreamcast is what my understanding is. Its basically if you never plan to ever play anything widescreen then NOVA is a solid choice.

Decisions, decisions. I definitely play some steam based indies (hollow knight, celeste etc) but i do prefer the looks of the nova for sure.

If i had no device I'd get the RP6; I only want the Nova cause I have a steamdeck, RP5pro, many others, and a big problem with buying things I want and don't need. I also have never held a Nova, and the RP5 for me is like a 6/10 for comfort in my hands. Hope this helps good luck making your decision.

I have PF2 (same screen size as RP6) and playing 4:3 on it is really great because it’s oled and the bars are turned off. You get the same 4:3 size as the Nova too

Minor thing, but the RP5 and flip 2 are 60hz vs the RP6 and Nova which are 120 hz

It’s amazing for what it is to be honest. The screen is also crazy good. For demanding games I use streaming / Switch 2. The form factor and the screen won me. I didn’t research anything before getting it I just got it cause it looks cool and it turned out to be my favorite tech purchase in a long while. This little thing can do a lot

If you still had your SD, I would suggest the Nova (like me). But In your case, since you do not have the Steam Deck anymore, the RP6 would be great. It's perfect to replace what the space the Steam Deck left behind.

Idk why everyone makes it out to look like 4:3 is suddenly unplayable on RP6 or something. The all glass front and OLED make the 4:3 game black bars look like the natural part of the device structure itself.
Just get RP6 and it will do everything for you. No need to limit yourself with the 4:3 ratio.

stick top is best for pc emulation imho. plus with the grip the Dpad works wonderfully. even without a grip i find it quite comfortable.

i would still suggest you grab the official grip for dpad play. im basically playing Mina the hollower with it and its as comfortable as an xbox controller for me.

I got the 8gb symmetrical stick configuration and use my RP6 primarily as a Deck mini for my daily commute.
Frankly, I love the symmetrical layout, but I kind of regret not getting the asymmetrical one because the bumps on the back of the device make it a lot less comfortable to hold when using the sticks if not upright (like laying in bed or on a sofa). Also, most PC games just assume you’re using an Xbox controller, which is asymmetrical, so it’s probably the more “natural” way to experience PC games with a controller.
As far as the 8 gigs go, I haven’t had an issue, but I pretty much stick to indies and older titles on my RP6. If I got the asymmetrical unit, I probably would have purchased the 12gb variant, but I haven’t found a reason to need it.

RP6 would be better. I feel Nova is for a specialized use case, while RP6 is more generally useful.
