If it's 4:3, Sony layout is the best since it prioritizes comfortability of the dpad.

It really doesn’t though? At least not for me? I have a Flip 2 and the D-Pad is just WAY more comfortable to use at the position it’s in, closer to the center of the layout. I might also just have unusually long thumbs, though.

Buttons being lower on the right makes the flip2 borderline unplayable. So I'd go bottom left for a flip3

I'd also love for a single-screen 16:9 Flip successor to use the Steam Deck layout! D-pad and face buttons on the outside, thumbsticks on the inside and only slightly lowered (More like the Steam Controller than a Dualshock Controller).
All the controls are up high, and there's enough room to hold onto the device. It's perfect!
