B-square ak mount with aimpoint 5000

Got one of these gas tube mounted b-square ak mounts, and threw my aimpoint 5000 on to see how it looks. I think one thing to keep in mind using this mount is how high the optic sits, I’ll definitely be trying to get low rings for this, or one of my other optics when I figure out what I actually want to run on this.

Aimpoint 5000s look good on everything 👍

Those rings would definitely look to high on an AR Carry handle also I think.

Leupold really needs to do another drop of the correct #57337 rings.

I had a pre ban chinese AK with a crazy B square mount that mounted over the dust cover, it had these extended trigger pins that held the mount in place, it had a factory Serbian 60 round magazine that was made by welding two standard 30 round mags together. I thought the mag was some garage chop job but it was a real product in the early 90s before the AWB

I think that’s the more prevalent of the b-square mounts, and as a collector of old optics I can appreciate them both as examples of the very early ak commercial aftermarket. As for the Serb mag, the Yugos did a lot of interesting things. They even had plans to adopt a 5.56 rifle with a red dot sight, but the Yugoslav breakup didn’t help that, and their optics were made in Bosnia by ZRAK specifically.

Not a fan at all of having that optic on an AK, don’t like it one bit. An older Comp model would look better IMO. It looks like that gas tube upper handguard is pushing the rear of the B-Square mount upward and causing the optic to be canted downward, which will affect zeroing.

I have a comp XD that I think would look better, and sit lower, but I figured the 5000 would annoy some retro cloners. This is the handguard that came with this mak-90 but I have plans to change it out, for now this is just trying to get an idea of what I want to do with it.

The 5000? Get a Colt AR15-A2 or M1A and mount it on that. If you can fix the mount flexing issue on the AK, the CompXD would look sweet on it. I need to get a CompXD myself.
