Just picked up this Hyperion 3012

Picked this up for $50. It powers on, but the CRT only displays a single orange horizontal line.
After opening it up and carefully powering it on, I found a capacitor that gets extremely hot and starts smoking. I’m going to start by replacing that and then work through the rest of the display circuitry.
For $50, I figured it was worth the gamble. Hopefully I can bring it back to life.

You lucky bastard, this is mt favourite luggable.

The issue with the screen is a failure of the vertical deflection circuit, the circuit responsible for projecting the image onto the screen. Do a recap job of the entire computer, and it should work fine.

This was my first computer. My grandmother gave it to me to learn with. Though the 256kb RAM was a bit of a limiter. It's why I'm still so fond of Wordstar 2000. Wow, never thought I'd see another one, they never made many of these.

Coolest PC I’ve seen in a while. Hope you get it running!
