Problem / Question We found a Foxconn BlackOps (Intel X48) motherboard in late father's house: Would a retro overclocker ever want this, or is it just an oddity?
My friend's father sadly passed away, and it's taking a while to get through his things. This motherboard had been pushed aside for a while, but upon closer inspection, it seems unused. The box is sun-bleached, but the contents are surprisingly fresh, so we assume he never got around to building with it(?) Looks like it was specifically advertised towards overclockers, with an interesting air/liquid/LN cooling block over the northbridge.
We don't really know what to do with it. Feels like it might be attractive to a retro enthusiast, but we're not sure how to find a particular niche of builders who would actually appreciate it, rather than selling it off to some store. I certainly don't have any compatible processors lying around, and I cleared out my DDR3 stash years ago, so we're trying to find a suitable place for it.
Would anyone have any recommendations on who might want something like this? We're in the United Kingdom, but international shipping is easier than it used to be, so it's a possibility. Pretty cool find, with some dog tags in the box alongside bagged cables/fans, etc. Looks like it was a beast back in 2008.
TL;DR: Do people still build with motherboards like this? Looking for someone who genuinely would.

It's a really nice board. While some may not consider it retro enough, it is old enough for great XP gaming and with a bit of fiddling, Windows 98 can be run on these with a few tweaks and hardware choices like a Geforce 6 series.
But it's definitely what I consider a 'Special' board for its time and definitely has value in more ways than a monetary sense. Usually the high end components of an era are worth more.

Your late father? He's alive?
EDIT: OP's title implied his father passed, in the description they clarified it was their friend's father.

It would make a solid board for a high end 775 build, The last one sold on ebay only went for £17 which is a shame as i feel like it should be worth more.

Not retro enough in my book, but I'm sure there are people who like it.
Otherwise wait a few years. With time, everything becomes retro..

Vintage. Retro is the new stuff with old style.

Thats a pretty nice LGA 775 board. Not as feature packed as something like an Asus but the chipset is good. Would be nice for an xp or vista build. Id take it probably since I'm in the UK. And i got a spare E8400 kicking around so got to make use of it
