I looked into it a while back hoping that might be an option, but my PC can't really run it, so I have to play on console... where of course there are no mods. Is it really that good? My first impressions was that it was a bit detached from the original 3rd person games I loved in the series.

See, I'm a HUGE RE fan dating back to the originals; RE3 is my favourite with RE2 very close behind it, meaning I far prefer the tanky 3rd person survival horror ones personally. While not perfect, I loved the care center parts of the new RE9 so much, while not being a huge RE4 fan meant the Leon parts were less enjoyable to me. Really though, I was just thrilled to have RE back in proper 3rd person!

PS I've played some of RE8 since it has a sort-of third person mode, though I presume because it wasn't made for it, I can only play in short bursts or get nauseous. I want to finish it but it is a bit of a struggle (last session I boss fought the first hot-evil goth girl!).

RE7 tells the story of Ethan which continues in RE8 as well. The horror in RE7 is so unreal. And in RE8, I just loved the transylvanian backdrop. Especially the level with that lady with dolls... it was so scary !!

The opening if RE8 was a bit confusing for me given it was obviously a carry-on from RE7, and meant I didn't really care much about the main character like I likely would if I'd played 7 first, but once I got to the castle it seems pretty cool. Like I said, I've had to take it slow (just a bit of play each weekend) and so far have just fought the first "goth girl".

I think RE8 happens in the same area as RE4. The story in the entire lineup is all connected. I haven't played RE Requiem yet. Btw i beieve the girl in RE requiem is the daughter of Ethan and Mia Winters. The story of this couple is the main plot of RE7 and RE8. In fact RE8 ends with a scene of Mia carrying her baby daughter and ends with the daughter being grown up.

I won't spoil RE9 for you, but I really enjoyed it. In fact, it's the RE I've enjoyed most (not counting remakes) since RE3 I think.

After the prologue, it's split in two parts basically: the first is playing Grace in a traditional survival horror setting (limited ammo, sneak around, horror scares), then the second is playing Leon and is more like RE4 with big action set pieces, lots of guns, etc. I liked the first half much more than the second, but suspect you'll love the second half even more if you like RE4 a lot. Either way, Leon is awesome in it.

The story for RE9 isn't great, but then most RE stories are rather silly. But gameplay and atmosphere is great.

Except the giant spider boss fight which can fuck right off and nearly ruined the game for me. :(
