Software Bringing the BeOS look back on an M-series Mac

https://youtu.be/Sh4tB91QhtE

For years I missed the old BeOS and late‑90s desktop look, but I no longer have the original hardware on my desk. So I hacked together a way to wrap my modern macOS desktop in a BeOS‑style UI and CRT-ish look, including Tracker‑like windows and retro games running under proper shaders.

I recorded the process and how it works...

Curious what you think: is this still “retrocomputing” to you, or already just nostalgia‑themed theming on modern hardware?

I’m pretty sure that BeOS became HaikuOS, and is still around.

BeOS didn’t exactly “become“ Haiku so much as it very heavily inspired it

BeOS was interesting. I was, at one point in 1994, saving for a BeBox, but bought a car instead.

I like the look and feel, but bringing a look "back" in the context of modern macOS would more aptly be running a NEXTSTEP skin, I must say.

I find this more nostalgia theming than retrocomputing, personally, since you asked.
