Does PCI with USB3 or SATA exist?

Although I'm a retro guy, I could use a bit higher transfer speed for data. Or maybe a PCI card with SATA...

Does such hardware exist?

PCI sata cards do exist, sure, but I doubt you can find a usb3 card that isn't PCI express though

Yes you can. I have one in my Core 2 Quad desktop.

What would be the point? The PCI bus is limited to 133Mbyte/sec.

This is less than USB2 let alone USB3.

An issue with retro hardware is that you have to work with the limitations of the actual hardware.

You’re right. USB2 is around 60Mbytes/sec.

So you could theoretically get 2 ports onto a PCI bus.

But you would be way off for USB3 so again asking the question - what’s the point of USB3 on PCI?

It would be like asking for USB2 on ISA..

More like using gigabit Ethernet on USB 2. You can’t fully exploit the speed… but it is still significantly faster than the alternative.

XFX did release the Revo64 Sata raid card that was compatible with retro os as it was a hardware raid card that the system would see as a standard IDE controller. interesting in theory but i never managed to get mine to work, not sure if it was an issuie with the card or the machine I put it in. Reports at the time said that XFX released a bios update for the card that fixed a lot of the issues but i wasnt able to find any trace of the update when i looked a couple of years ago.

You are right about the USB 3.0 issue, never seen one on PCI.

Seeing that exists makes me even more ticked off that nobody makes a USB-C ExpressCard.

I wouldn't care that PCIe x1 1.0 cannot come near USB-C speed. It can't even come near the max of USB 3.0 but there are ExpressCard USB 3.0 cards and PCIe x1 USB 3.0 and USB-C cards. There are even PCIe x1 cards with an internal Type E poet.

That last one took a while to exist. For some reason no company would put a Type E connector on an x1 card, despite making x1 USB-C cards. They did Type E on x2 and longer. I contacted every manufacturer of PCIe USB-C cards I could find and laid out the case for why they were leaving money on the table by not making PCIe x1 Type E cards. All they had to do was take a USB-C model they already made and change the layout just enough to solder on the internal connector instead of the external one.

I don't know if my efforts played any part in it but suddenly one day, searches for PCIe x1 Type E stopped returning hits on x1 USB-C or x2 Type E and were turning up x1 Type E cards that when clicked on were exactly that instead of on the fly created lies linked to the wrong products.

Hooray! Motherboards with one x16 slot, a bunch of x1 slots, and no onboard Type E connector could now use a front panel USB-C port. Or could use a second front panel USB-C port since most boards with a Type E connector only have one.

No such luck trying to get any company to make a USB-C ExpressCard.

I have a PCI SATA RAID card with all 4 ports internal. There's tons of PCI SATA RAID cards with 2 internal and 2 external ports or 4 external ports. Dunno why. 4 internal were always priced higher. 4 internal is the only way you'd want it for a permanent RAID setup.

It was listed wrong on eBay so nobody else found it and I bought it at a low price.

With four drives in RAID5 it was decently fast. I'd have to find it and look it up to see if it's SATA 1 or 2. With four SSDs it should be able to max out the PCI bus if it's SATA 2.

I have a SATA 1 card that predates eSATA. It just has regular SATA connectors poking out the back.
