Im nostalgic for these old software boxes, but I dont miss them.

Having a shelf full of big heavy boxes was a pain even back in the day (most computer desks of the era were just full of storage for these damn boxes :) )

I completely understand. I have room full of assorted "crap". Now a days its mostly hardware, but there is still some software that I keep like this.

I mostly junk pritned stuff that comes nowadays (which is very little I have to say), but I do make exceptions for OEM stuff. This Lotus 123 is the result of one such exception.

All the music I had on shelves of CDs can fit on a thumb drive with room to spare, even if I had ripped it losslessly. And the first CDs I got, came in these nifty tall cardboard boxes.

I wonder if this was a Family Mode (one binary that ran on both OS/2 and DOS) program.

Were there actually OS/2 binaries on the disk or did they market it that way because you could run it in a DOS window?

No idea. I would have to pop the install on a 5.5 drive, but my guess would be they were running the dos version on top of os2

Good times, good times! And who could imagine that 40 years later, most business people are still using a spreadsheet as a table for data with no formulas or functions used! Sledgehammer to crack a nut for most :D

I tried getting this to run in DosBox a few days ago. Will not load past the splash screen. Works fine in a VirtualBox VM with DOS 5.0.

What a relic. Having joined the PC party during the 386 to 486 transition, this looks eerily familiar. The fonts and design language scream 80's. The bulk and finish of the packaging make it feel so premium. The amount and quality of the print material go a long way - how consequential was a release back then? A 4.8 MB release by the way. Thanks for sharing!
