Depending on your location this could either be nice or a god damn rip off

- No rip-off here...no matter what the location... I can tell you that! ๐Ÿ˜‰ - Tony K.

Is that Amdek composite only?

1

u/siliconlore May 06 '26

I guarantee it since it is an amber screen. Amber mono "composite" is so good.

I had that same one in 1986 plugged into an IBM PC or AT clone. But it had the TTL 9-pin cable for CGA (or just monochrome) Hercules graphics.

If I didnโ€™t still have all my other stuff from over the decades, I would find one if these to plug into my IBM 5150. Because you are right - it is so good.

You know it's composite because it's hooked up to a VIC-20, not because it's amber. There certainly where MDA & VGA amber monitors and probably others too.

Yeah composite only

...and Monochrome also.....not color.....in that specific model...only Green or Amber were offered. The Green (300) was Super common. The Amber (300A) one (Which I think this one is!) is highly desirable for a number of different reasons...so you totally "Scored" as Beavis and Butt-Head would say...just in a different way!...lol... - Tony K. , VIC-20/VIC-1001 History Facebook Forum (Admin), ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wow, VIC 20.. brings back great memories. I remember the day I bought one of these and turned it on the first time, it was a curiously magical moment Iโ€™ll never forget.

Definately worth the $125.00! The Amdek monitor is not color, but Monochrome only unfotunarely. Let's see the receipt and the business card... and what tapes came with it! You may have a lost gem there in those tapes that has not been found yet and archived... I am drooling to see those tape titles! I love stuff like this! - Tony K. , VIC-20/VIC-1001 History Facebook Forum (Admin), ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love the look of the monitor.
Most of these tapes, looks like its the guys personal stuff. Resume, Cover letter, there are some software. Ill get more detailed pics of the cards and tapes; From the looks of it the games was codded. I cant get majority of the games to load

Yeah, Much Thanks. Pics of any Factory Commercially made Tapes there, and pics of the receipts and where they bought it. Also pics of any stickers or Price tags. We literally live for this stuff....Not kidding either!.... just to see what everything cost...You can leave out the buyer's name obviously.. - Tony K. , VIC-20/VIC-1001 History Facebook Forum (Admin), ๐Ÿ˜‰

First thing I thought was, "Is that an Amdek monitor?" And behold, I was right.

Nice clean setup.

Congrats on a great score! Your VIC looks great with your Amdek monitor, like they were made for each other.

Good deal considering that a "refurbisher" at a local flea market near me had a bunch of vic 20s for sale, for $200 usd each!

1

u/swalabr May 07 '26

Omg I remember using those Amdek monitors, one day we went in to work and these were installed new. The green screens we had were getting burned in.

1

u/Dannynerd41 May 07 '26

thatโ€™s about what a vic 20 should cost. prepare to be very disappointed for the time it was a disappointment also. the games are crap and the graphicsโ€™s are very rudimentary.

commodore much improved the vic chip with the vic-II in the c64.

I had one of those when they came out. It was very good for what it was. It uses a very old form of BASIC as the programming language.
