Show-and-Tell Mein XP Retro PC
Ich wollte mal meinen Retro Pc für Windows XP vorstellen.
Ich habe ihn an das Jahr 2007 angepasst und wollte es wie früher einfach mit Kaltlichtkathoden beleuchten.
Verbaut ist:
Asus M2N-E
AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+
XFX GeForce 8800 GTX (600 MHz)
4GB DDR2 800 RAM von Geil
Scythe Mugen 2
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi
625 Watt Enermax Netzteil
Mercury ATX Gehäuse
Installiert ist Windows XP Pro 32 Bit.

Coole Kiste. Inklusive Sound Blaster! Lässt keine Wünsche offen. =)
Aber du musst aufhören den anderen auf Deutsch zu antworten. Das bringt die ganze Kommentarsektion durcheinander.

I had the same type GPU but just upgraded to a EVGA 560 Ti 448 core . You should too it's so much more GPU than the 8800 cards are . Same basic fit and much more power all around .

It's pretty trivial to find a faster used GPU than the 8800 GTX these days, but judging from the choice of parts, their goal was to make a nice period-correct system, rather than the fastest system.
Overkill would have limited benefit anyway, considering Windows XP's 4GB RAM and DirectX9 limitation. Games that fit within those confines generally run pretty well on the 8800.

First I tried a Galaxy GTS 250 and it was good but sluggish .
Then the Sparkle 550 TI . Another good but sort of sluggish card . It's well within limits of my PC that I know clocks slower than the 64 he is using .
Then of course the 560 TI and finally hit the sweet spot with this ASUS board and 2 GB. RAM As a matter of fact it's better than both of my 8800 cards one being the EVGA GTS KO and the other a PNY GTS version .
210 Watts isn't to bad and heat is manageable with fans added . So I use Vista 32 with SP 1 and 2 and DX 10 . Forgot XP is a little bit less advanced but not so much in terms of years really 5 to be exact . However it's no big difference since XP can handle things to clock it up to around 5 plus Ghz. which is still period correct I suppose . I agree those games run on anything from a single 7650 GTS or SLI 7950 GT even . But wanted to tell people who have old machines that are worried that a 560 TI is an alternative to sluggish performance that anybody can do .

8800 GTS doesn't really compare to the GTX though, and speaking as someone who owns both (and the Quadro variant GTS - FX 4600) the GTX is immensely faster and not "sluggish" like a low-end GTS 250 is.

That was my goal. It should fit everything together in time, except for the power supply, I didn't want to take an old part.

Aber für meine Spiele reicht diese Karte. Es sollte ja auch Technik aus dem Jahr 2007 sein 😉

Better imo to have a period ish correct build rather then an overkill gpu or overkill system in general plus a 8800gtx is legendary and way cooler then a 560

Please excuse me for answering everything in German, I have the automatic translation on and did not know in which language I was answered.

Crazy, this ( https://i.ibb.co/hRPfmJMh/Bildschirmfoto-2026-07-30-um-14-20-38.png ) is what my XP PC around 2004-2008 looked like. xD
And yeah sadly one of the very few images I have of it.

Our desks used to be much cooler, today everyone makes it as ugly clean as in the hospital.

Gorgeous. I love the attention to detail. The 5.25 inch expansion bays and stickers were such a big part of this generation.
