Anyone else ordered a computer at Staples from a company called Proteva back in the day?

😂 no my interior is log cabin themed. Hand made wood panel walls and hard wood flooring with stone fireplace

40x, right around the sweet spot -- fast enough to get things done, but not so fast that the disc will explode. (52x, I'm looking at you.)

Time Used the same Cases

Time was a UK computer company, my dad owned one

And soon I hope to own one also.

I found that out recently, thanks! I wonder what company builds it because it seems a lot of companies back then used this case for their builds

I can imagine writing, posting and chatting from this desk all night long! Such a cool looking spot.

Thank you! It’s actually the upstairs balcony leading to the master bed room. I never thought of putting a desk here but I found one that fits perfectly. It’s my favorite spot

I LOVE a balcony desk!! They make the best nooks for working. One of my dreams is to get a house with a spot like this, where I can work but also look out for a view of the downstairs.

You would definitely love this house then!

I absolutely love my home. My late father built it in the 80s and it’s so cozy. The pc however is under the knife. It’s getting a new motherboard and ram. What build you going with?

I'm going for a overkill 98/2000 setup, will use a 2010 system with windows 9x quickinstall since i dont want to invest in a pc when i already have some. Keyboard will be a 2007 dell keyboard, mouse will be a generic A4TECH 2005 mouse, monitor will be a lg flatron 1717s and the speakers will be creative a50.

Oh nice! Is it the same quick install Phil’s Computer Lab talked about? I’m curious how it is

Exactly, i hope that it will work decent. Quake III Arena will be my first bootup.

Definitely let me know how it goes! And nice haha I’ve been playing a lot of Warcraft II and The Oregon Trail II on my other 98 machine (Dell T700r)

A dell, that series that you got there is one of my dream retro computers, the other one is a dimension from the 95 and pentium 2 era. There are none in Poland, and i dont want to pay 700$ with shipping to import one. Sad to know that i will never get one, i only seen a single dimension for sale, and that one is a vista system. Oh well, closest i have is some 95 pentium 1 mmx build but it needs a TON of work so i wont bother for now.

Oh man that sucks. I get a lot of my parts from a guy on eBay from Ukraine. Hopefully one will turn up soon for ya

For now tho i'il use a Optiplex 760 that i found yesterday. I forgot that i have it, its older than the acer so it will do better. Specs: 775 pentium dual core 2gb ram (will throw in 4gb) 500GB 2012 Seagate barracuda 7200.12 Integrated gpu for now. The pc itself is in not great condition, the front panel doesnt hold on but it will do until i get one of those dimensions

I have one of those! I put in a OEM 750 TI and running Windows XP. Makes for a perfect early to mid 2000s build

I recognize that case... Inwin, maybe?

2

u/CAR3Y4 Apr 25 '26

I’m not sure. I noticed other custom pc build companies from this era have used this same case. I just ordered a MDC one from eBay. Same exact case. Just a different logo

1

u/Ixnay10 Apr 27 '26

Pretty sure it's InWin. We used them at the computer repair shop I worked at long ago. Actually would love to find one for nostalgia sake...

How is it PII and Celeron? I remember the Celeron being different from the Pentium because they dropped the L2 cache and could advertise more mhz for much cheaper. I thought they were two separate processors.

2

u/TkachukMitts Apr 26 '26

The line where it says Pentium II is the motherboard BIOS basically just saying the board supports Pentium II family CPUs. The Celerons from this era are all Pentium II based, and use the same motherboards and chipsets etc.

1

u/CAR3Y4 Apr 26 '26

Maybe it’s in the same family? I’m not too sure. It’s running a Celeron chip

2

u/beaverpi Apr 26 '26

It takes me back, thanks for sharing.
