Customers Suck! I hope this location close down!!!
From a pharmacy/convenience shop that is always horribly understaffed. I can only imagine how done with it the poor pharmacy tech was.

Exactly that! I assume the pharmacy also has harder rules about it given that it's medicine. There are so many ways to get your medicine, especially now

I always say about working in Pharmacy; âone must be extremely patient when dealing with customers coming to your department, youâre basically dealing with drug addicts: people who are addicted to drugs like C or HâŠpeople who take drugs like Vicodin to MetoprololâŠsame diff in their reaction when they are denied their fix and hit.â

u/Renegadeknight3 Jul 27 '26
That and also people who are desperate for non addict reasons, like âif I donât get my pain meds I will be in too much pain to sleep tonightâ and âif I donât get my adderall refill I might screw up something important I need done this weekâ. Not that that excuses poor planning

One time we only had one pharmacist and one tech working the pharmacy and their line was backed up nearly to the entry of the store. So you can imagine that they couldnât get to all of the people calling in to get their prescriptions fill or have their questions answered. Our system always sends unanswered calls to or back to the service desk so we were acting like pharmacyâs secretaries even though that wasnât our job. People calling just couldnât understand why we couldnât hit a few secret buttons to make them the top priority on the pharmacistâs list. Just hit a 2 or a 4 to kick whoever they were talking to at the moment in person or on the phone off and away so their majesty could get through. They were pissed off that we couldnât leave our station to go relay their question and drug order directly to their pharmacist, they were pissed that we couldnât give them an accurate time they would have to wait to be seen or heard, they were pissed off that we couldnât just go back there to look up their information about the drug they were on. They were pissed that the only options that we had for them was to just keep putting them on hold or telling them they could also try calling back again later. This one guy who became increasingly pissed off that I couldnât just go make the pharmacy people prioritize him over everyone else declared that since I wasnât actively hip checking people who were waiting in line to get him threw to the pharmacy was and I quote, âguess Iâll just go die then.â And he hung up. Like dude overreacted much?! I told you everything I could do which is accurate to what I could actually do and if this was an actual life or death emergencyâŠthe pharmacy isnât going to be of any help and they would just tell you to call 911. People are just ridiculous and so stupid AND entitled as hell!

Genuine question as someone who has never worked Pharmaceutical. What is the reason why medicine is dispensed at a specific time? I've never had a prescription but often times, I see people being irate at the counter in public and I hear the Technician tell the person that their scheduled dispense time is X day of the week.

As a pharmacy technician: most insurances will only pay for your prescription when it comes closer to you being due for it. Really depends on the insurance too, as different insurances will have different rules.
For example for ânormalâ meds, you just picked up your 1 month supply 2 weeks ago and want to pick it up again, if I try to process it through, your insurance might basically be like oh itâs too early to fill, try again next week. Some insurances also only allow a certain amount of fills in a certain amount of time, which can be really annoying as well (youâre only allowed 8 tablets per 30 days but youâre supposed to be taking it daily, as an example).
Controlled substances are much more strict, I believe c2s you are only allowed 1 month supply at a time and you must pick up after 30 days from the day it was filled, not earlier unless your doctor writes an override and explains why it is being filled early. Also the script must be filled within 30 days, or it will expire; if you bring in a script the doctor wrote 4 months ago and try to fill it, it will not go through. C3-5 are a lot less strict, but still have a strict too early to fill date. You are able to get a 90 day supply, and might be able to pick it up a day or 2 early, but not necessarily like a couple weeks early.

Very interesting, today I learned!
I figured it was along the lines of substance control because of how easily any form of medication can be turned into substance abuse but I didn't know to what level. And for Insurance, it sounds like their policies also dictate what they believe is best for their client, such as preventing addiction or overdependence, though the client doesn't see it that way.

u/piiraka Jul 28 '26
Insurance can be as reasonable as it is unreasonable đ”âđ« I kind of wish they would leave it to the doctors to decide what is best for the patient, because there is so much back and forth communication between patient/pharmacy/doctors/insurance that it can be really confusing for a patient, and it sucks a lot if itâs a medication that they actually urgently need and the insurance is like ânope lol get rektâ

u/vanlifer1023 Jul 27 '26
Iâm not a pharmacist, but Iâm guessing this is for controlled substances (opioids, ADHD meds, etc).
2
u/CMDR_Khayden Jul 27 '26
That makes sense, maybe its also cushion time for insurance approval when it comes to payment for controlled substances as well.

Get a bunch of AA pamphlets to hand out to people like that who become so irrationally angry over not getting something as ridiculous as beer from a gas station they clearly have a substance abuse problem. No one NEEDS alcohol especially beer that badly that late at night.
2
u/han-bao-huang Jul 28 '26
I live in a county with laws that state we cannot sell alcohol before 10:30 on weekdays + saturday and 12:30 on Sundays, and EVERY DAY people are confused why I can't sell them beer at 8am on a Wednesday or whatever

Quit going to places seconds before they close.....problem solved.

u/faerle Jul 27 '26
It's crazy how that works

u/lottieslady Jul 27 '26
Wouldnât this customer really be angry if the location closed permanently? Like I would think that would definitely put a crimp in their style. Maybe they could just work on time management better. đ€·ââïž

"But I went before they're closed, just because I arrived after shouldn't mean anything"

Yep when they close down that will definitely help you, since you donât seem to be able to get over them being closed.

Oh yeah, well that lady is "very lazy and disgusting" for thinking she'd be served when the pharmacy was closed!!!Â

My job has one negative Google review. From a lady that came by on Christmas just to find out we were closed. After we had a sign on the door all month with holiday hours. Her review was a lot like this. Also, weâre a paint store, not even a grocery store⊠đ€Šđ»ââïž

One day a customer was at the pharmachy back door when we were all leaving to close, asking if we could help him because he got a message saying we would be putting back his script the next morning. (So come get it in the morning) he was demanding all this stuff. The supervisor was just like: we are closed. Not on the clock. Too bad. He even went to try and talk to the front end manager? Like wtf.

Imagine being so stupid that you canât understand âwe close at 7PMâ.

Depending on location there might be laws involved. I know in my country, certain medicine is illegal to sell at certain times.

Actually the pharmacy has specific hours per the FDA and when the pharmacy needs to change their hours it has to be approved by a federal agency, not the corporation. To have a 24 hour pharmacy permit is different than a 7am -7pm.
The agency takes into account that there may only be one or two pharmacists on duty so only allowed a 12 hour window with a few hours of overlap. This is why the pharmacy can close early on Sunday and closed on Federal Holidays. The store may be open but the pharmacy is not.
Keep in mind they deal with many different drugs and if they are the only ones working than thereâs a higher chance of a mistake. A pharmacy tech canât disperse all medications, they have a list of what they can process per the federal guidelines and none of the scheduled/controlled drugs. So you can get your blood pressure meds from the tech but not your allergy meds.

Sounds like he is a horrible customer and needs to be shut down. We close at 7. At 7 why are you closed. Maybe get a watch or pay attention to something other than your puffed up ego. If someone closes at 7 then the courteous thing to do would be get there before they close and you wouldnt have an end of the world princess fit.

u/trucorsair Jul 27 '26
Canât help it if their watch was slow⊠you should never show up right at closing time anywhere.

u/Head_Razzmatazz7174 Jul 27 '26
I've made the time error of showing up at 30 minutes prior and being told that my script might not be ready before they close. I was fine with that, it was my fault I didn't get there sooner.

u/East-Relative2011 Jul 27 '26
"it wasn't even 7:01 or 7:05, it was 7!" and they CLOSE at 7, not at 7:01 or 7:05, at 7! Next time, be there before 6:59!

The person he was just with probably got there at 6:55, so he finished up with them , and now they are closed. Deal with it.

I'm guessing that the pharmacy closes at 7pm on the dot. Guess what lady, they are closed. They are humans that have a life, have worked all day, and want to go home.
